All things considered, the Acer Aspire 7744G75Bnks is an overall good multimedia notebook that definitely deserves a closer look by users of various interests. Those who would like to play games with high detail settings in 3D, should look to a notebook with a 120 Hz display and a significantly more powerful graphics card like the GeForce GTX 460M (for example, Asus G53JW).Asus N73JF

4 USB 2.0, 1 VGA, 1 HDMI, 1 Kensington Lock, Audio Connections: Kopfhörer/Line-out, Mikrofon/Line-in, Card Reader: MMC, SD, MS, MS Pro, XD, Webcam: 1.3 Megapixel, 120 Watt Power Supply, Nvidia 3D Vision Glasses with Accessories, Quick Instructions, Manuals, Warranty Folder, Blu-Ray Disc with Trailers, 24 Months Warranty, Asus N73

The Aspire 5745DG has a very nice design. The silver palm rest adds a sleek touch. Most ports are placed far toward the front. The maximum screen tilt leaves no room for complaints. The nine-cell battery raises the case up a bit.The keyboard and touchpad leave a good impression.Asus N71VN

The high gloss finish leaves the case easy to scratch. There's a large maintenance cover on the bottom which can be unscrewed. Here you have access to the hard drive, RAM and WLAN.The Aspire 5745DG is one of the first Notebooks with Nvidia's 3D Vision.Asus N71VG

The infrared transmitter is built right in to the display frame. The black cover has a sleek striped pattern. The Mainboard has four RAM-chip slots. The hard drive has a generous 750 GB storage capacity.Asus N71JV

Without the battery, the case feels significantly lighter. The round power button is a trademark of Aspire notebooks. The case is furnished with two speakers. The sound quality is average. The optical drive can be opened with just the press of a button.Asus N71Jq

The thin arrow buttons are particularly irritating when playing a racing game.Intel's Core i7-Processor offers outstanding application performance. Some keys should really be wider.Nvidia's GeForce GT 425M is often too slow for 3D performance.Asus N71Ja

The comfortable and well-proportioned touchpad is one of the notebook's strong points. The keyboard is not fitted with a backlight. The build is sturdy and reliable. The built-in Blu-Ray drive will make film buffs jump for joy.Asus N71J

There's no point in searching for a USB 3.0 port. The cardreader can read five formats. The notebook can be locked with the Kensington lock.An external monitor can be hooked up with a VGA or HDMI cable. The 99 Wh battery is surprisingly powerful.Asus K72LN71

Wearing the 3D shutter glasses on top of your own glasses is not very comfortable. The 3D Vision kit comes with removable nose-pad pieces and a charging cable. The 3D shutter glasses make the screen a good deal darker.3D-capable Notebooks with a 120 Hz display like the Asus G51J, the Asus G53JW or the Toshiba Satellite A665.Asus K72JU

Lamborghini. The name exudes power and exclusivity. A dual-core Atom puts this netbook well out in front of its single-core rivals, while Ion 2 gives it a (small-scale) boost for HD entertainment. Surprisingly, the engine is quiet and the temperature gain low. Could this be an eco-friendly racing car with long battery life?Asus K72JT

ASUS Eee PC VX6 Lamborghini: Performance netbook with dual-core Atom D525 and Nvidia Ion 2The Taiwanese manufacturerAsus K72JRAsus has been trying for several years now to capture the spirit of sporting exclusivity in the plastic form of the Lamborghini VX series. And not just with ultramobile 12-inch machines, like the one we have here, but also 15.6-inch models like the Lamborghini VX7. These racing car models all allude visually to the Lamborghini style. The logo with the bull and the words 'Automobili Lamborghini' add the finishing touch to the design.Asus K72JK

The second feature that every self-respecting laptop-cum-racing car must have, is a certain exclusivity in terms of the hardware. Of course Asus can’t make a super-powerful gaming machine out of a 12.1-inch netbook, at least not if the price is to stay realistic at €599. In the case of the 15.6-inch version, the VX7, the exclusivity is provided by the 1.5 TB hard drive capacity and the FullHD screen resolution (1,920 x 1,080).Asus K72F

So what is special about the VX6?Asus K72DY So far only Asus has fitted netbooks with the dual-core Intel Atom D525 (2 x 1.80 GHz), DDR3 RAM and Nvidia Ion 2 (Eee PC 1201PN, Eee PC 1215N). Will the powerful netbook performance cause the battery life to suffer? Will the engine noise be deafening? Will we burn our fingers on its hot surfaces? Is it worth paying the Lamborghini premium to get this plastic workmanship? Get these answers and more in our comprehensive review.Asus K72DR

Speed mode buttonThe manufacturers have borrowed details and visual elements from the current look of Lamborghini sports cars for the VX6. The bull logo has claimed the spot on the lid that is usually reserved for the Asus logo.Asus K72

The lid, back edge, base plate and on/off switch are all reminiscent of the trim, spoiler, finish, and interior of a high-end sports car. Even those who are not familiar with the Lamborghini style will appreciate the sense of power and speed in its design.ASUS N71YI

The case is plastic, complemented by a matt magnesium alloy on the palm rest and keyboard surround. The surface is extremely firm and cool, which is why we assume it is metal. The thin black perforated strip on the lid is also metal, but not the chrome strip below it. Despite the majority of the case being made of plastic, the VX6 has a sophisticated, high-end appearance.ASUS N71VN

The classy impression is, however, offset somewhat by the greasy finger marks which accumulate on the lid and screen edging. The lightly rubberized surface of the palm rest is not safe from this either. The glassy-looking touchpad (made of a very hard plastic) also gets covered in smudges, which could have been avoided.ASUS N71VG

The relatively thin construction of the base unit turns out to be surprisingly sturdy. Surfaces on the top and bottom of the base unit, including the keyboard area, do not flex, with the understandable exception of the lid, which does flex in the middle when you apply some serious pressure. The hinges hold the lid firmly in position; we needed both hands to open the netbook.ASUS N71V

The 12-1-inch machine does not have a DVD drive, so the space available for ports is relatively large. All ports are on the right and left sides of the netbook, with the back edge reserved for the battery unit.ASUS N71JV

The VGA port is positioned immediately next to the HDMI on the left-hand side. Since these ports are towards the back of the netbook, there should be no awkward cables getting in the way of your mouse (for both right and left-handers). The selection is rounded off with a USB 2.0 port and a card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC, RJ45). As with all its netbooks, Asus uses a tiny mobile phone-style power socket.ASUS N71JQ

Looking at the right-hand side it becomes apparent why the VX6 can call itself a 'performance' netbook.ASUS N71JA Asus has splashed out on two USB 3.0 ports for the netbook. This new standard is theoretically ten times faster than USB 2.0, as it can reach transfer speeds of up to 625 MB/s in Super Speed mode. This rate is a theoretical 60 MB/s for USB 2.0. Also, the unit load of power that it can supply to a device is increased from 100 mA to 150 mA, which enables you to run devices with higher energy needs (like external hard drives) without them having to have their own power supply.ASUS N71J

As well as a WLAN Draft-N module (Broadcom 802.11n), the netbook has Bluetooth and a Fast Ethernet controller.ASUS N71 The Bluetooth module supports the latest standard, 3.0+HDR; unfortunately the same cannot be said for the LAN controller, which does not support the higher transfer rates of Gigabit LAN. An integrated 3G module has not been included, though it would have been a big help to the VX6’s aspirations of being a high-end, ultra-portable machine.ASUS K73SV

In terms of software, Asus has stuck with the usual practice of including no disks other than a driver and utility DVD. A copy of the operating system on factory settings is stored on a recovery partition on the hard drive. ASUS K73S

The USB ports can be used to recharge mobile phones, ASUS K73JK iPods and so on, even when the computer is switched off. This feature must be activated using the USB Charge+ tool, which also allows you to differentiate between mains power and battery modes. Using the Eee PC Dock, a tool that hovers over the top of the desktop, you can access (amongst other things) Asus Web Storage (500GB of online memory) and entertainment services (Asus @ Vibe, internet games, AP Bank). The Netbook comes with an Android operating system, ASUS G50V-A2 Battery which can be booted to instead of Windows. The advantages: The smart phone OS is loaded within seconds, only requires few system resources, and is hence economical. It contains a web browser (Firefox), Google Webmail, Google Talk, and a calendar. For those that want to quickly access information, Android could possibly lend a helping hand. Practically we couldn't imagine that anyone will use this feature though. From standby the familiar Windows 7 Starter is also loaded within seconds.Acer provides a 1 year warranty, including 1 years International Travellers Warranty (ITW). ASUS G50V-AK062G Battery

Acer's FineTip keyboard has a short travel, an unclear pressure point, and a firm (right) to spongy (left) end stop. The keys only have a small gap between each other. The key markings on the F and J keys can be felt clearly. Typical for a Netbook are the small arrow keys including page up and down buttons. Attempting to quickly use these for navigation could lead to pressing the wrong button.ASUS G50V-AK118J Battery

Another flaw when typing on the One D255 is the narrow palm resting area. Big hands will overhang the edge and slip over the hard corner. Altogether the typing feeling is short winded (short travel), and without good feedback (partially spongy end stop). ASUS G50V-AS067C Battery

The multi-touchpad (V7.2) surface is homogeneous with the palm resting area. Two tiny haptical raised lines separate the touch sensitive area on the left and right sides. The touchpad has the same smooth haptics as the surrounding palm resting area. The Synaptics touchpad offers many settings for customization. For example when not wanting to turn pages or scroll, this feature can simply be disabled.ASUS G50V-EP048C Battery

The not optically marked horizontal and vertical scroll bars have to be activated in order to scroll through websites or documents. The surface of the touchpad appears sufficiently large. It is sensitive right up to the edges. The buttons have a short travel and make a muffled clicking sound. The smooth surface is soft and can easily be distinguished from the rest of the touchpad. ASUS G50V-EX109C Battery

The 10.1 inch display (25.6 centimeters) has a resolution of only 1024 x 600 pixels (WSVGA). HD-Ready (1366 x 768) would likely be more favorable for some users since this allows for better oversight on the desktop, and would also allow more practical working with several windows at the same time. The display is exactly the same as that on the One 521.ASUS G50V-EX129C Battery

The contrast of the AUO panel (B101AW06 V1) is, ASUS G50V-P8600 Battery as is so often the case, bad: 195:1. Contrast describes the white content in black colors. Colors only appear half way brilliant due to the glare-type AUO-TFT. The glare characteristics enhance the optical appearance of colors. The color space couldn't be measured by us, since the software for our Colorimeter is not compatible with the WSVGA resolution. Spectacular results would not have been expected though. ASUS G50V-X1 Battery

Acer touts a High-Brightness (200-nit) display. Nit stands for Candela per square meter (cd/m²), which is why our measurements of on average 183 cd/m² do not correlate with Acer's claims. Merely in the upper right corner about 204 nit are reached. The illumination is just about even (81 percent), so that we could not recognize any lighter areas on a completely black display.ASUS G50V-X2 Battery

For the color representation the glare type display is not the worst choice, but under direct sunlight it is a bit of a catastrophe. Trees, houses, garden chairs, and users are mirrored. The luminance of 183 cd/m² cannot trump the reflections. In order to achieve acceptable viewing scenarios, users have to either find a place indoors or in the shade. ASUS G50V-X5 Battery

In the sun the surface of the shiny display frame makes itself noticeable in a negative way. Finest dust particles accumulate there as well as on the display surface. The provided polishing cloth thus becomes the weapon of choice against finger prints and dust.ASUS G50VM Battery

View front, thick cloud cover, reflectionThe horizontal viewing angles are just about acceptable. At up to about 40 degrees deviation from the center we were able to read writing clearly, and the inversion of the colors remained limited. From below or above (vertical) writing is well recognizable up to about 25 degrees due to the darkening. Colors invert obviously from about 15 degrees. A frontal seating position is therefore necessary for ideal images.ASUS G50VM-A1 Battery

The D in the name of our tested device stands for Dual. What is meant by this is the Intel Atom N550 (2 x 1.5 GHz, 45nm) processor,ASUS G50VM-A2 Batterywhich sits on the usual NM-10 Intel chipset. As with the N450/N455, the graphics core GMA 3150 is integrated. Since Hyper-Threading is still supported, the Dual-Core can process four threads simultaneously. This should expedite multi-tasking particularly, a scenario with which the Intel Atom could not previously get accustomed with its In-Order-Architecture. Whether this has changed is analyzed by us in the following paragraphs. ASUS G50VM-DP01 Battery

The N550 has a TDP of 8.5 Watts, this is three Watts more than a single core N450/N455. The CPU has a DDR3 memory controller, which is why a GByte DDR3-10600 RAM module (Kingston) is included.ASUS G50VM-X1 Battery

The graphics unit integrated into the processor (GMA 3150) offers a core clock speed of 200 MHz, and DirectX 9c support, which is not enough power for either games or decent hardware support. Further components include a 2.5 inch hard drive from Western Digital, with 250 GBytes of storage capacity (WD2500BEVT-08A23).ASUS G50VT Battery

How does the performance of a single core Atom compare to a dual core Atom? The N550 has a clock speed of only 2 x 1.5 GHz,ASUS G50VT-A1 Battery while the N455 is slightly faster with 1 x 1.66 GHz. We first tried the multi-core benchmark Cinebench R10 32-bit. The N550 reaches 1430 points. A N455 scores 840 (@1.66 GHz, Acer Aspire One 533-13Drr), or even 888 points (@1.7 GHz, Asus Eee PC 1016P). Abbreviated: Using all four threads (Hyper-Threading) the Dual-Core Atom processes 61 percent faster. The higher clock speed of a single core processor can't make up for this.ASUS G50VT-A2 Battery

How do things look when it comes to single core processing? The Cinebench R10 single 32-bit scores 509 points. A N455 also only achieves 568 (@1.66 GHz), and 581 points (@1.7 GHz) respectively. A disadvantage from the 1.5 GHz is therefore not apparent. ASUS G50VT-AK097K Battery

We wouldn't want to portray the Dual-Core Atom N550 as an unchallenged winner though.ASUS G50VT-B1 Battery AMDs Netbook CPU V-Series V105 (Eee PC 1015T) achieves 1021 points with only 1 x 1.2 GHz, although only in the single core test of the Cinebench R10 32-bit. Even faster is the Athlon K125 (1 x 1.7 GHz) in the 10 inch Acer Aspire One 521: 1491 points. Also concerning the system performance, measured with the PCMark Vantage, the AMD K125 can out perform the Dual-Core test device. ASUS G50VT-BBB Battery

Whether users are better off with a Dual-Core Netbook, can be revealed by the system benchmark PCMark Vantage.ASUS G50VT-X1 Battery Using this the One D255 can score 1498 points. Classical Netbooks with a single core N450 (e.g. Samsung N150 Eom) also score 1332 points. If the faster DDR3 RAM is used in conjunction with the N455, this also doesn't lead to significantly more points: 1160 points (Acer Aspire One 533-13Drr). If the N455 is overclocked to 1.7 GHz, then a score of 1230 points is possible (Asus Eee PC 1016P). Abbreviated: Our tested device is 18 percent faster than the best (overclocked) single core Atom.ASUS G50VT-X2 Battery

Taking another look at the AMD Netbooks, an AMD K125 (Aspire One 521) sprints ahead with 1686 points in the PCMark Vantage test (+ 12%). An AMD V105 (Eee PC 1015T) is however slower with 1360 points (- 9%).ASUS G50VT-X2AM Battery

Following on from the number crunching is the perceived working speed. This is noticeably smoother with the Aspire One D255, as well as with the AMD-K125 model (Aspire One 521), and hence more pleasant than with other single core Netbooks that we have tested.ASUS G50VT-X3 Battery

Does everything speak in favor of our tested device? In principle yes, ASUS G50VT-X4 Batteryonly perfect 1080p high resolution videos will still not be possible. The CPU load has fallen a little in Playback compared to the single core N455. Videos with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (720p, H.264) can be played back without difficulties (approx. 65% CPU load). ASUS G50Vt-X5-RF Battery Full-HD test videos juddered sometimes though, and 82% CPU load on all four threads doesn't exactly speak in favor of the best video fun. It also depends on the coded format of the movie though, our 1080p trailers of a Coral Reef Adventure, and The Magic of Flight, posed no problems with a CPU load of 38%. ASUS G50VT-X5 Battery

Whether HD video is an important point in favor of buying or not is in the hands of the user. The rough WSVGA resolution is as much of a drawback as the missing HDMI port for connecting an external television.ASUS G50VT-X6 Battery

The Western Digital hard drive (type WD2500BEVT-08A23) with 250 GBytes works with a rotational speed of 5400 RPM. HD-Tune measured an average value of 51.5 MegaBytes per seconds (sequential read). This data rate is significantly lower than the average of comparable 2.5 inch hard drives in Netbooks, and also notebooks (approx. 65 MB/s). ASUS G50VT-X8 Battery

Those that wish to upgrade, will have it a bit more difficult than with other netbooks or notebooks. Firstly the keyboard has to be removed, then the screws for the base plate can be removed from the inside. Instructions with pictures is contained in the review for the Acer Aspire One 533. The SATA hard drive is very quiet. The noise could only be heard by placing the ear against it. ASUS G50VT-X9 Battery

The cooling fan on the Aspire One D255 is a constant companion. It does switch itself off when in an idle state from time to time (30.1 dB(A)), but when used only a little,ASUS G50VT-V1 Battery such as when starting tools or changing websites, it is still noticeably active (33.2 dB(A)). This is different to single core Netbooks, which can come to terms without a cooling fan in ideal cases (Dell Inspiron Mini 1012), or can switch it off for longer periods of time (Samsung N150).
