ASUS F3Jp Akku

Performance
Click to EnlargeWith a 2.2-GHz quad-core Core i7-2675QM CPU, AMD Radeon 6750M switchable graphics, ( Battery for Samsung SSB-X15LS3 ) 8GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive with an 8GB SSD cache, the Battery for Samsung Chronos 7 packs plenty of performance into its svelte frame. Whether we were playing games or watching full HD videos, performance was strong. On PCMark 07, a synthetic benchmark that measures overall system speed, the Chronos 7 scored 2,447, comfortably above the 2,226 mainstream notebook average, far stronger than the Core i5-powered Sony VAIO S (1,875), and on a par with the Core i5-powered HP Envy 15 (2,385).( Battery for Samsung SSB-X15LS6 )
The 750GB 7,200-rpm Hitachi hard drive, which is paired with an 8GB SSD cache module, booted Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) in a speedy 37 seconds, far less than the 59.6-second category average, the Sony VAIO S's 70-second start time, or the Dell XPS 15z's 67-second boot. The HP Envy 15 comes close with a 44-second start time. However, even with Battery for Samsung's ExpressCache utility activated, the Chronos 7 still took more than 5 seconds to wake from sleep.( Battery for Samsung SSB-X15LS6S )
The hard drive took just 2 minutes and 1 second to complete the LAPTOP File Transfer Test, which involves duplicating 4.97GB of multimedia files. That's a rate of 42.1 MBps, about 40 percent higher than the 30.8 MBps category average and far faster than the Sony VAIO S's 24 MBps, the HP Envy 15's 25.1 MBPs, or the Dell XPS 15z's 32.2 MBps.( Battery for Samsung SSB-X10LS3 )
With its speed quad core processor, the Chronos 7 took just 4 minutes and 56 seconds to complete LAPTOP Spreadsheet Macro Test, in which we use OpenOffice calc to match 20,000 names with their addresses. That's far faster than the 6-minute and 39-second category average, the Sony VAIO's time of 5:27 or the HP Envy 15's 6:31 mark.( Battery for Samsung SSB-Q20LS )
Graphics
With its Radeon 6750M graphics chip, the Battery for Samsung Chronos 7 is more than powerful enough to play demanding games or full HD videos. On 3DMark06, a benchmark which measures overall graphics prowess, the notebook scored a strong mark of 9,983, more than double the mainstream notebook category average of 4,862 and well ahead of the Radeon HD 6630M-powered Sony VAIO S (6,821), the HP Envy 15 (AMD Radeon HD 7690M; 8,978), and the Dell XPS 15z (7,420), which has a GeForce GT525M GPU.( Battery for Samsung SSB-Q20LS2 )
The Chronos 7's Radeon 6750M chip uses AMD's graphics-switching technology, ( Battery for Samsung SSB-P30LS )which allows the system to use its low-power Intel integrated graphics when performing less-demanding tasks and its discrete chip for more-intense applications such as games. Using the bundled Catalyst Control center, we were able to exert fine control over which applications used discrete graphics, but we much prefer Nvidia's Optimus graphics switching technology because the latter already has profiles for most popular programs and uses a tray icon to indicate the current mode.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB5NC6W )
The Chronos 7 managed a strong frame rate of 68 frames per second in "World of Warcraft," with default settings on and 39 fps with special effects turned up. Those numbers are comfortably above the 60 and 27 fps category averages as well as the 43/28 fps turned in by the HP Envy 15. To be fair, though, the Envy 15 has a higher-resolution display.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB5NC6B )
When we tried playing the more demanding game "Far Cry 2," the Chronos 7 achieved a 54 fps rate at 1024 x 768 resolution, which dropped to 38 fps at its native 1600 x 900 resolution. Those numbers trump the 49 / 24 fps category averages and the 54 /24 fps offered by the HP Envy 15, ( Battery for Samsung AA-PB2VC6B ) but not by much. The Sony VAIO S provided a much higher low-res score of 88 fps, but its native res rate of 25 fps was unplayable.
Life
Click to EnlargeNot only is the Chronos 7 light enough to carry everywhere, ( Battery for Samsung AA-PB2VC6W )but it lasts long enough on a charge to go unplugged for hours at a time. The notebook posted a strong runtime of 6 hours and 23 minutes on the LAPTOP Test, which involves continuous surfing over Wi-Fi. That time is significantly longer than the 4-hour and 52-minute mainstream notebook category average, the 5:01 turned in by the HP Envy 15, and the Sony VAIO S's time of 4:29. Just keep in mind that the notebook was in integrated graphics mode during this test.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB2VC6W-B AA-PB3VC3B )
Software and Warranty
The Battery for Samsung Chronos 7 comes with a modest collection of utilities.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB3VC6B ) Battery for Samsung EasySettings lets you control everything from the color temperature of the monitor to the power and audio settings. Battery for Samsung EasyMigrate allows you to easily copy your important files from your old notebook. Battery for Samsung Kies helps you organize your media files. The Software Launcher places a little dock at the bottom of the screen with shortcuts to your favorite apps; we find such docks an unnecessary waste of space in light of Windows 7's customizable taskbar.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB3VC6B-E AA-PL2VC6B )
Battery for Samsung Easy File Share lets you share media files wirelessly between devices. CyberLink YouCam controls the webcam. Battery for Samsung Recovery Solution helps you make backups and restore your system in the event of disaster.( Battery for Samsung AA-PL2VC6B-E )
Battery for Samsung backs the Chronos 7 with a one-year standard warranty. See how Battery for Samsung performed on our Best & Worst Brands Report and Tech Support Showdown.
Configuration Options
Our $1,299.99 configuration of the Series 7 Chronos comes with the Core i7-2675QM CPU, AMD Radeon 6750M graphics, 8GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive and Windows 7 Professional. If you don't need Windows 7 Professional, you can purchase the identical configuration with Windows 7 Home Premium for just $1,149. Battery for Samsung sells a $999 configuration with a slightly lesser AMD Radeon 6490M GPU and Windows 7 Home Premium.( Battery for Samsung AA-PL2VC6W AA-PL2VC6W-E )
Verdict
The Battery for Samsung Chronos 7 has a strong combination of portability and performance,( Battery for Samsung AA-PBOTC4B ) particularly for a 15.6-inch system. Though its quad-core Core i7 CPU and Radeon 6750 GPU help it outperform the $1,249 HP Envy 15, we prefer the Envy for its brighter 1080p screen, better Beats audio and snazzier design. The Sony VAIO S also offers a superior screen and a much lighter chassis. However, if you want high-end quad-core performance in a notebook that's light enough to carry everywhere, the Chronos 7 is a solid choice.( Battery for Samsung AA-PBOTC4L )
ReviewSpecifications.Along with reading, writing, and arithmetic, learning to use a notebook is becoming another fundamental for elementary school students. The $495 Lenovo ThinkPad X130e looks to fill the role previously filled by the likes of netbooks, but it adds durability and Lenovo's superb keyboard. Is this 11-inch AMD-powered system destined for the head of the class? Read on to find out.( Battery for Samsung AA-PBOTC4M AA-PBOTC4R )
.
Design
Although the X130e is numerically the successor to the X120e, the two differ in a number of ways. For one, the X130e, at 11.6 x 8.5 x 1.3 inches, is noticeably bulkier than its progenitor, and, at 3.4 pounds, weighs 0.4 pounds more than the X120e, as well as the HP Pavilion dm1. Where the X120e had squared edges, they're more rounded on the X130e, presumably to prevent a child from poking himself in the eye.( Battery for Samsung AA-PBOTC4T )
Click to EnlargeOverall, the ThinkPad X130e strikes a good balance between Lenovo's toned-down business aesthetic and something more kid-friendly. We especially liked the red matte lid on our unit; unfortunately, it will only be available for special bids; all others will get a standard black lid.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB8NC6W AA-PLOTC6M )
Inside, the X130e looks similar to the notebooks that came before it: A matte black bezel, keyboard and keyboard deck definitely looks like this notebook is preparing children for a life in the corporate world. There seems to be a lot of wasted space above the keyboard, but it's actually used to house the battery. At least the doesn't hang down below the rest of the design, like on other ultraportables.( Battery for Samsung AA-PLOTC6P )
Rugged Features
Built to withstand the rigors of an elementary school, the X130e comes with a top cover rubber bumper, which helps absorb impacts to the side of the laptop. The corners are also reinforced to reduce the chance of damage if the system is dropped at an angle. Lenovo built the the hinges to last up to 30,000 openings and closes, and the ports have been reinforced and recessed to decrease the effects of wear and tear. Last but not least, the display bezel is reinforced with 1.2mm thick plastic to protect the LED panel.( Battery for Samsung AA-PLOTC6L )
Keyboard and Touchpad
Click to EnlargeWhile they have the same smile-shaped Accutype keys as on the X120e, the keyboard on the X130e has been rearranged slightly. The Escape and Delete keys are now twice their normal length, and the Insert key has been removed from the function row. The Print Screen button, which was combined with the Insert key, is now a dedicated button, crammed in between the right Alt and Control keys along the bottom.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB6NC6E )
Overall, the keyboard on the X130e offers the best tactile feedback of any notebook we've used with this size display. The keys offered plenty of travel during our testing, and the layout didn't exhibit any flex.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB6NC6W )
Click to EnlargeGone are the two buttons below the touchpad on the X120e; now, the whole pad on the X130e is clickable. Unfortunately, the touchpad is the same size as before: 2.9 x 1.4 inches. While we like that it has a dimpled surface, as on its more recent ThinkPads, its small size made it nearly impossible to execute multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom.( Battery for Samsung AA-PB8NC6BAA-PB8NC8B )
Thankfully, Lenovo included its industry-best Trackpoint, which is nestled between the G, H and B keys. At the default setting we found the pointing stick to be oversensitive, but dialing back the speed in settings helped.Heat( Battery for Samsung AA-PL8NC6W BA43-00189A )
The ThinkPad X130e remained very cool during our testing. After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the middle of the underside was just 85 degrees Fahrenheit. That's a full 10 degrees below what we consider uncomfortable. The touchpad measured 80 degrees, and the space between the G and H keys was 83 degrees.( Battery for Samsung NP-R20 )
Display and Audio
Click to EnlargeThe matte 11.6-inch display on the X130e has a resolution of 1366 x 768, which is standard for a system this size and price. Its average brightness of 148 lux is somewhat dim, but not by much. The average ultraportable measures 182 lux, and even high-priced ultrabooks such as theLenovo IdeaPad U300s only averages 156 lux.( Battery for Samsung NC10-14GB )
While watching a high-def trailer for "The Hobbit" on YouTube, we noticed a bit of pixelation in darker areas; blacks were not as true as we'd like, and viewing angles were limited to pretty much directly in front of the display. Still, this panel should more than suffice for students.( Battery for Samsung NC10-14GW )

As of early 2012, mSATA SSDs are still a niche product and will likely continue to be until more notebooks take advantage of the ultra slim form factor of the drive. ( Dell UD535 ) Is it worth buying a new notebook just to use an mSATA drive? We think not, but if you already have an available mSATA slot and a primary hard drive disk, then the Renice X5 can make for a quick and easy upgrade with noticeable boosts in everyday performance. ( Dell TD612 )
New graphics card in an old garment. Packard Bell freshens its 17-inch EasyNote LS11 series with the latest components. Particularly interesting among them is the "brand new" Radeon HD 7670M from AMD. For a scarce 700 Euros, is this multimedia device going to be a cost/performance king?( Dell TD611 )
The name Packard Bell has long stood for attractive and fairly-priced multimedia devices. ( Dell TD429 )With the EasyNote LS11HR-167GE the manufacturer again rightly claims its reputation. The 17-inch all-rounder has powerful and perfectly compatible mid-class components at its command.Let's jump right in with the highlight of the notebook: the Radeon HD 7670M is actually only a renamed HD 6670M, but thanks to its good performance, the DirectX 11 graphics card isn't at all left behind popular Nvidia models like the GeForce GT 630M – quite the opposite. ( Dell KD186 )
After that comes a dual-core processor by Intel. The 2.5 to 3.1 GHz speedy Core i5-2450M masters almost every task with bravura. ( Dell HD438 )Eight GByte DDR3-RAM and two 500 GByte HDDs aren't exactly meager, either. A DVD-burner completes the hardware package. In the realm of software Packard Bell puts its confidence in the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.And what's all the fun cost? At the time of review the EasyNote LS11HR-167GE was available for about 700 Euros.( Dell CGR-B-6E1XX )
sensitive high-gloss lidThe black case is inobtrusive in various respects. A weight of 3.1 kg and a measurement of 414 x 275 x 37 mm are typical for a 17-inch device. Also in its technical design the EasyNote LS11 makes a modest impression. The shaping orients itself towards the current notebook standard, dark plastic surfaces dominate.( Dell 312-0416 )
Little details like the patterned (and, because of its piano-finish look, extremely sensitive) notebook lid, however, makes the multimedia device stand out from the conventional crowd. In particular, the silver-gray palm rest brings fresh wind to the look. In terms of quality, the 17-incher is alright. The plastic surfaces are very well manufactured, even down to the transition between the lid and the frame of the screen.( Dell 312-0366 )
The notebook reveals its weaknesses in the area of stability. As with many other devices, with two hands the monitor can be substantially bent. The top yields itself noticeably, mainly in the area of the battery (rear) and in the area of the DVD drive (right). The bottom, on the other hand, is relatively stable.( Dell 0XD184 )
In terms of both the hinges, the attribute wobbly would apply. If you shake the base (simulating earthquake tremors), the monitor distinctly rocks back and forth. Still, the screen can be flipped open with one hand. Along with better hinges, in the future we would like to see completely matte surfaces.( Dell PU556 )
Frustrating: Though the (more or less structurally identical) EasyNote LS11HR-050GE that we reviewed a few months ago could offer two USB-2.0 ports and one modern USB-3.0 port, the new LS11HR-167GE has to make do with three USB-2.0 ports.( Dell WR053 )
The rest of the available connections have remained the same. Thus, the left side is equipped with a Kensington Lock, VGA and HDMI output, and two audio connections (headphones + microphone). The front side contains a 5-in-1 card reader, the right side a RJ-45 Gigabit-LAN port and the power input. ( Dell 312-0567 )
The positioning of the connections is something Packard Bell should think over again. Although most of the ports are intuitive and comfortably accessible, when cables are plugged in, the use of a mouse is difficult (there are collisions). Those who like to surf the internet wirelessly will be happy about the WLAN module (Atheros AR5B97). Bluetooth is not supported. ( Dell 0WR053 )
In order to access the radio module, the main memory and the hard drive, all you have to do is remove three screws from the bottom of the case and take off the maintenance lid. Fans, the processor, and the graphics card are not directly accessible.( Dell PU563 )
Packard Bell shows no mercy and crams the notebook full of all sorts of Bloatware. Why are we aggravated about free software? Well, the practical uses of some of the programs tend towards zero. Moreover, because of them Windows is unnecessarily limited. At least a few features are worth mentioning: some readers are bound to sit up and take notice of "Adobe Photoshop Elements 9", "Adobe Premiere Elements 9" and "Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Essentials". ( Dell 312-0543 )
In order to offer the notebook as cheaply as possible, Packard Bell economizes its scope of supply: a power supply, battery, Getting Started booklet and warranty manual will have to suffice for the buyer. The system recovery is located on the hard drive, as usual, and the option exists for it to be burned to DVDs. ( Dell 312-0584 )
The matte-black keyboard we'd describe as successful. By virtue of the so-named chiclet design (free-standing keys), you rarely hit the next key over. Despite the spaces in between, the keys are properly dimensioned at 15 x 15 mm. Also in terms of layout, there's hardly anything anyone would criticize. Further plus points are the dedicated number block and the respectable typing feel (decent pressure point & stroke). ( Dell 451-10516 )
Uncommon: the comfort functions (brightness, volume, etc.) are activated without a simultaneous press of the Fn key. This behavior can be changed in the BIOS settings, however (during the booting process, press F2 / Main / Function Key Behavior). Illumination is missing, unfortunately.( Dell FT080 )
The deactivatable touchpad cuts a fine figure, too. ( Dell FT092 )Not least, thanks to the many gestures (scroll, page turning, rotate and zoom with two fingers) the Windows daily routines can be executed effortlessly with your hand. A separate scrolling area is another thing you don't see every day. Another strength is the smooth surface that you can glide on very comfortably. What's more, the touchpad usually reacts with precision. With a measurement of 86 x 45 mm, the size is in the mid-range. Unfortunate: the two mouse buttons behave somewhat spongily.( Dell KX117 )
Now we come to the biggest weak point of the EasyNote LS11HR-167GE: the display. Packard Bell uses a 17-inch glare panel, which with 1600 x 900 pixels offers the ideal mixture of lots of work space and lower consumption of resources. Hollywood blockbusters will profit from the 16:9 format. Like most competitors, however, the manufacturer pays far too little attention to the picture quality.( Dell NR433 )
With the Chi Mei N173FGE-L21, our test device contains a terribly inferior panel. Especially at night, dark film and game sequences make a pretty gray impression. The responsibility for that lies on the high black value of about 1.1 cd/m². For a rich black, the value can't surpass 0.4 cd/m². ( Dell WW116 )
With a contrast of a scarce 240:1, a cheap display is just as suggested. For comparison: high-quality models reach a contrast of over 700:1 (see, for example, the Asus N75SF-V2G-TZ117V). Due to the shiny surface, the colors are still useful. The monitor performs well only in terms of brightness: 243 cd/m² moves it over the notebook average.( Dell 312-0427 )
Packard Bell EasyNote LS11HR-167GE vs. HP Pavilion dv7-6b02eg (grid)Despite its irreproachable brightness, the EasyNote LS11HR-167BE is not convincing for outdoor use. As expected, the glossy surface causes strong and unpleasant reflection. If you're unlucky, you might also be confronted with reflections in interior spaces in the daytime. A matte screen would make the user's choice of location considerably easier.( Dell 312-0428 )
The 17-incher has to pocket more criticism for the small viewing angle. Even if you're sitting in an optimal position in front of the monitor, in some picture areas changes in brightness appear. Thus while watching a film, for instance, the top sections appear darker than the bottom ones. ( Dell 312-0461 )
All in all the picture quality is disappointing on a broad level. For games or videos, it would be better to hook up an external monitor. Good displays under the price range of 1000 Euros are few and far between (the Schenker XMG A501 is one of the few exceptions).( Dell 451-10339 )
Universal Power Battery for iPhone 4 4s To fit with the mid-range graphics card, the EasyNote LS11HR-167GE has a dual core CPU at its command. The Core i5-2450M is based on Intel's successful Sandy Bridge architecture and is manufactured in accordance with the 32 nm procedures. Like the other Core i5 models the dual-core contains 624 million transistors (995 million in the quad-core) and a three MByte L3 cache.( Dell PD942 )
One of the most important features is the hyper threading technology, USB Universal Mobile Power Battery which makes it possible for the Core i5-2450M to process four threads in parallel. But the processor doesn't become a real quad-core that way. Although the Core i5-2450M with 2.6 GHz in its initial condition already reaches relatively high speeds, Intel integrates its proven Turbo Boost technology. At a max of 3.3 GHz, it can easily match the desktop competition. ( Dell PD945 )
Intel even gives the Sandy Bridge model a small graphics chip named the HD Graphics 3000 (650-1300 MHz), that can be used optionally instead of a dedicated graphics card. In light of the equipment and the afforded performance, a TDP of 35 watts is definitely alright.( Dell PD946 )
On the test device, the automatic overclocking functioned flawlessly. Under load the turbo was constantly active and accelerated the Core i5-2450M by several 100 MHz. In single-core rendering of the Cinebench R10 the dual-core ran with 3.0-3.1 GHz, in multi-core rendering with around 2.9 GHz. The stress test revealed 2.5-2.9 GHz.( Dell RD850 )

iphone 4s 4 Universal Mobile Power Battery Touching the symbol at the right upper corner, will bluely illuminate the pad, so, that other symbols, imprinted on the pad, will get visible. Touching those gadgets allows to launch different action, like e-mail, Connectivity Doctor, Windows picture gallery, ... Furthermore, you can adjust the volume by striking the scroll region in this mode. ( Samsung X05 battery )
Satellite X200's Dual Mode Touch Pad
Furthermore, the Satellite X200 provides the standard way of pressing an FN + key combination, for changing various settings. However, Toshiba also provides a pre-installed software tool, a minimized menu at the upper display edge, which opens upon pressing FN and allows to configure the notebook by mouse click. ( Samsung X06 battery )
Above the keyboard there is string of hot-keys which allows to control the Mediaplayer. Furthermore, the X200 comes with a fingerprint reader, which can easy access control. At the front edge, there is a switch for controlling the WLAN and the typical Toshiba dial volume control. ( Samsung X10 battery )
Color DiagramAll Satellite X200 models come nowadays with a 17 inch WSXGA display with TruBrite surface and a resolution of 1680x1050 pixels. Regarding desktop size and fineness you are clearly better of with this screen than with a WXGA+ screen. If you'd like to play computer games with the display's native resolution, you'll also require a top hardware equipment. Otherwise, you'll likely need to reduce the resolution for better performance.( Samsung NV5000 battery )
The maximum brightness was 173 cd/m², measured in the center of the display. However, the brightness diminishes at the edges, especially in the upper right area, where we measured the minimum brightness of 106 cd/m². To summarize it, the average luminance of 138.7 cd/m ² is rather moderate. ( Samsung Q10 battery )
The brightness in the corners is significantly lower, so, that there is a difference of 38%. Depending on the brightness of the displayed pictures, this is not recognizable or you'll recognize slightly darker corners. The good thing is that the display is driven with full brightness even in battery mode. ( Samsung Q20 battery )
The Satellite X200's screen scores points regarding contrast. A quite low black value of only 0.23 cd/m ² gives together with the maximum brightness an excellent contrast ratio of 752:1.( Samsung Q25 battery )The reaction speed of the display is 18ms (gray to gray response time, averaged standardized 8 point measurement). Though not absolutely convincing, this should be sufficient for hobby gamers.
As you can see on the video about the viewing angles, the reflecting surface is the major drawback of the provided display. Even indoors in moderately bright environments you can face reflections when displaying dark pictures. So, we recommend to carefully place the notebook with regard to surrounding sources of light. For the same reason you can forget about using this notebook outdoors.( Samsung P30 battery )
Regarding viewing angles, you'll face a slow loss of contrast and reflections horizontally. Vertically, when looking from bottom up, the display darkens while it whitens, when looking the other way round. The area of operation is acceptable and sufficient.( Samsung P35 battery )
The Toshiba Satellite X200 is offered with three different processors out of the house Intel (T7300, T7500 and T7700) as well as with two different graphics cards currently. A nVIDIA Geforce 8600mGT SLI solution and a Geforce 8700 M GT graphics card can be chosen regarding this. ( Samsung P40 battery )
The question which of the two options the roper Gaming performance promises now arises here. One may more efficient 8700M GT graphics card with 256 of this one to himself or 512 MB of GDDR3 video memory and one hope for assembly line balancing of 625/800 MHz of the roper results or make two 8600M GT chips (475/700 MHz and 2x256MB GDDR3 VRAM) in the SLI combine the run? ( Samsung NP-Q70 battery )
We look at the two variants in the comparison of the reached 3D marks benchmark results first. Here the 8600M GT get clear quite fast that this solution has the nose considerably in front. With 3D Mark 2006 benchmark the two Geforce 8600M GT graphics cards in the SLI combine only just behind the Geforce Go 7950 GTX SLI and the Geforce 8700 M GT SLI graphic solutions. According to first reports the Geforce still bothered by acute difficulties with supply of 8800 M GTX shall be the 3D Mark06 benchmark comparison considerably first with about 9000 points. ( Samsung NP-Q35 battery )
Benchmark Comparison 3DMark06At the time of writing the Satellite X200 is available with three different Intel CPUs, (T7300, T7500, or T7700). Furthermore, you can choose between two different video cards, the Geforce 8700M GT SLI video card or a 8600M GT SLI video card.Obviously, the most important question is which of these provides the better gaming performance. Is it the inherently more powerful 8700M GT or two 8600M GT video cards in SLI network?( Samsung NP-Q45 battery )
Let's first look at the 3DMark results of these two versions. Here the 8600M GT SLI bundle clearly wins. The 3DMark 2006 uncovers that the two 8600GT SLI cards are slightly outperformed by the Geforce Go 7950 GTX SLI and the Geforce 8700M GT SLI solution. First reports state that the Geforce 8800M GTX, which has supply difficulties at the moment, reaches 9000 points in the 3DMark06 benchmark, which is clearly top. ( Samsung AA-PBONC4B )
Crysis BenchmarkAs these benchmark results do not necessarily inform about gaming performance in practice, we performed some gaming test. The following diagrams depict the results of Doom3 (OpenGL) and F.E.A.R (DirectX 9). Of course you'll also need to consider other equipment details, e.g., CPU performance, ( Samsung AA-PB2NC3B )if you compare the results, because they have quite a big impact when running these games at low resolution and details. The graphic performance gets more obvious, if you run these games at high resolution and details.
The Doom 3 performance test (Timedemo 1, average frames/second) with ultra details and a standard resolution of 1024x768 is won by the 8700M GT SLI video solution, followed by the 8600M GT SLI chip, followed (with some distance) by the 8700M GT video card, the Geforce Go 7950 GTX SLI, and the 8600M GT.( Samsung AA-PB2NC6B )
However, the results of FEAR, which is rather demanding and sensible to driver troubles, is completely different. The7950 GTX SLI wins, followed by the rest of the examined video cards, which are close to each other. We were especially surprised by the good results of the 8600M GS video card with GDDR memory in the Samsung X65, which reached excellent 68 fps at maximum CPU and GPU settings. This also hints on a general driver problem with FEAR.( Samsung AA-PB4NC6B )
Looking into the future, DirectX 10 gets important. Although, there is no notebook available at the moment, which would provide smooth DirectX10 gaming fun at a good resolution, this is a main aspect for high-performance video chips, such as in the Toshiba X200, nowadays. ( Samsung AA-PB6NC6B )
The Crysis CPU and GPU benchmark results were rather disillusioning. The Satellite reached at a resolution of 1024x768 and presets at low 55.6 Fps in the GPU and 54.4 Fps in this CPU test on average. If you either increase the resolution or the number of details, the game gets unplayable. Furthermore, the benchmark test was again and again interrupted and the error message " CryEngine2 does no longer work" was displayed, when we tried medium details at a resolution of 1280x800.( Samsung AA-PB0NC4G )
So, regarding Crysis you'll still need to wait for the 8800M GTX video card, which will be provided in some notebooks at the beginning of 2008. World in Conflict BenchmarkThe strategy game World in Conflict also supports DirectX10 at high details. ( Samsung AA-PL0NC8G ) The results were similar to Crysis: Even at a low resolution of 800x600 pixels we measured only 18 fps in benchmark test. However, the results at medium details (DirectX9) were clearly better. 34 Fps at a resolution of 1280x800 are well playable. This is also proved by the following game test in practice.
During a 2 vs 2 game we measured an average of 70-90 Fps and the game ran smoothly. A higher resolution (1280x800) is also possible, however, there might be some flickering. However, setting details to high (DX10) causes a clear loss of performance. ( Samsung AA-PB0NC6B )At resolutions from 1280x800 to 1680x1050 only 10-20 Fps were possible, which is far from being playable. For comparison, e.g., the mySN D901C DTR Notebook with 8700MGT SLI video card and Intel Core Extreme 3.0 GHz CPU reached 20-30 fps here. Universal Power Battery Pack Bank for iPhone 4 4s
Still, the question whether to prefer a Satellite X200 with 8600M GT SLI or Geforce of 8700M GT remains difficult to answer. If you stick to the 3DMark results the SLI video solution is better. In practice the SLI solution is also better at Doom3, however, outperformed by the 8700M GT at FEAR. Overall, ( Samsung AA-PB1NC6B ) the performance of these two solutions are close, but, the SLI solution can only run at highest performance, if SLI is supported by the software. So, the more powerful 8700M GT will outperform the two 8600M GTs, whenever a game does not support SLI.
Furthermore, we want to mention two further equipment details of the Satellite X200: The notebook computer is equipped with two hard disks, each having a capacity of 200 GB. So, a total hard disk capacity of 400 GB is available. ( Samsung SSB-Q30LS3 )Two Toshiba MK2035GSS hard disks with a revolution speed of 4200 revs/min are used. Compared to other 5400 and 7200 revs/min hard disk the transfer rate and access time of these two were clearly worse. If you don't need that much capacity and would prefer a better hard disk performance you might be better off by choosing 2 160GB 5400 revs/min hard disks, which are provided by other X200 models.

Akku Dell Inspiron 500m

Design meets Performance. One is already nearly used to the first-class design of Apple Notebooks. Ever since they are also equipped with Intel CPUs and it is possible to run them under Windows, they are true competitors to comparably equipped notebooks. As expected the MacBook Pro scores also high. This elegant notebook is really powerful, because of a T7700 CPU and a NVidia Geforce 8600M GT video card. So, gaming is possible with a Mac - „Sounds strange, but is true“.Acer Aspire 2930 charger
The MacBook Pro 15'' with Intel chipset was already reviewed by us some time ago. At that time it was the pioneer Apple notebook with Intel CPU. The look of MacBooks did not chance much since then, at least at the first glance. Inside the noble aluminum case, you'll now find the most up-to-date technology, which provides a lot of power. A good reason for reviewing the new MacBook Pro. Acer Aspire 1410 charger
In the meanwhile, the installation routine of Windows on a Mac was improved and, so, also the possibility to reasonably work under it. The procedure is rather easy: 1) Download the Bootcamp software. 2) Install and execute it under MacOS. 3) Insert and install the Vista CD. 4) Install Drivers for Vista. 5) Choose the operating system in the start menu at boot time (Alt). Acer Ferrari 1000 charger
This is all. And as one is accustomed to, this procedure by Apple is simple and user-friendly. Also the support for Apple functions under Vista was optimized in the meanwhile. E.g., scrolling with 2 fingers on the touchpad is no problem and also the integrated web cam (iSight) works troublefree. However, there are slight problems with some hardware differences, like the single touchpad button or the Apple specific keyboard layout. Acer AS09B56 charger
Back to the notebook. The case is nearly completely made of aluminum. The surface's haptics is first-class. Despite of an edgy and linear design, there are no sharp or uncomfortable edges or corners.Acer AS09D31 chargerThe workmanship and stability of the MacBook are as good as the look elegant. All parts are seamlessly connected to one another. Scrutinizing the notebook for weaknesses regarding workmanship is a waste of time.
The aluminum case does neither react to applied forces nor are deflections possible. Handling the notebook is also as expected, you' won't hear any creaking. The total weight of only 2.4kg is one of the MacBook's strengthes. The big, reversely attached hinge seems to be very robust. There might be usability limitations, because the opening angle of the display is, therefore, limited. Acer BATBL50L8H charger
The MacBook Pro's display transport hook is advantageous. Immediately before completely closed, two hooks which lock the display in closed state, are moved out of the display by a magnetic mechanism. However, the release at the front side is difficult to use, because it is rather narrow. Acer Aspire 1810T charger
The whole back edge is used as vent hole for the fan. So, the interfaces are provided at the notebook's flanks. The notebook is not equipped with many interfaces, but, the ones provided are of high-quality. Among others there are a Firewire 400, Firewire 800, DVI out, and also a 34mm ExpressCard slot. However, there are two points of critique: First of all only two USB ports are provided. Secondly, a docking port is missing. Acer BT.00803.015 charger
The already known MagSave power connector is again amongst the interfaces. This is a power connector, which is attached by magnetism. It does not only look good, it also protects the notebook in case somebody falls over the power cable.Acer LC.BTP01.017 charger
Regarding input devices, i.e., keyboard and touch pad, no difference to predecessor models can be noticed. However, the previous statement should not be negatively interpreted. The size of nearly all keys is comfortable. However, there is one significant exception: the enter key. Although it extends over two rows, it is rather narrow, so, requiring some adaption time, to definitely hit it all the times. Acer LC.BTP01.019 charger
Also the keyboard layout needs a little critique. For the sake of a nearly perfect design, all the keys were put in a strictly rectangular frame. So, the layout is not really concise. Furthermore, the keyboard is optimized for MacOS providing some special keys. That means, you'll need getting used to it first. The Ctrl and the Alt keys are left beside the space bar, the AltGr key (for Windows) is missing. Acer AS09D34 charger
Typing feels very comfortable. It is soft and quiet with sufficient travel and a clear point of pressure. Depending on the hands' position the notebook's front edge might disturb if you continue typing over a longer period of time.Uneven gaps between single keys could not be detected at the reviewed notebook - something criticized at predecessor models. Acer AS09D36 charger
The automatic keyboard lighting is a nice feature. If you cover the light sensors, which are left and right beside the keyboard with your hands, or if the brightness of the environment is below a certain level, the MacBook Pro automatically switches on an optically impressing keyboard lighting (LEDs under each key). Acer AS09D56 charger
The touch pad is generally user-friendly, however, it only provides a single, but especially spacious button. While this is no problem under MacOS, this can be, depending on the application, uncomfortable under Windows. Up to now, you can only overcome these difficulties by using an external mouse (or by positioning two fingers on the pad and then click). Conditionally, one can criticize that the touch pad button is somewhat too rickety attached to the case. Acer AS09D70 charger
Super new feature of the touch pad: Scrolling with two fingers. While conventional touch pads need a dedicated scroll-zone, the MacBook's touchpad allows browsing trough a document by placing one finger at the pad and moving a second one up or down. With the new version of the Bootcamp software, this is also supported under Windows.Acer AS09F34 charger
Color DiagramThe MacBook Pro is equipped with a 1440x900 Pixel WXGA+ display. This slightly improves the overview compared to the standard resolution of 1280x800 pixels, while the font size is still comfortable.Acer LC.BTP00.052 chargerThe matt display scored excellently. The maximum brightness amounted to exellent 346.6 cd/m² at the bottom part of the screen. The rather below-average illumination of 70% is put into perspective by a still excellent minimum brightness of 242.5 cd/m². The average brightness of 290.4 cd/m² is also very good. Looking at the color correction diagram we see that mostly the blue color curve has to be lowered to reach a neutral coloring.
The panel's measured black value is 0.6 cd/m². Together with the excellent measured maximum brightness of 346.6 cd/m² this gives a very good contrast ratio of 548:1. We could not detect any anomalies regarding speed of reaction by performing scroll tests. Acer Ferrari 1003 charger
Operation OutdoorsOne can say with a clear conscience that the MacBook Pro is completely fit for outdoor usage. The matt non-reflecting display surface (in our review sample, you can also get a reflecting screen optionally) and the excellent brightness ensure a good picture also in the sunshine. Working in sunshine at the pool? - No problem for the MacBook Pro. Acer Ferrari 1003WTMi charger
Horizontally, the stability to to the vantage point is good and sufficient. At acute angles there is a loss of contrast. Vertically, the stability to the vantage point is good when looking from top down. Looking from bottom up the display soon darkens. However, displayed text stays passable legible.Acer Ferrari 1004WTMi charger
Equipped with a mobile High-End CPU, a Core 2 Duo T7700 processor with 2.4 GHz, and a fast video card, the MacBook sets extremely high standards for comparisons with other multimedia notebooks. This is also proved by benchmark tests. Acer Aspire 3100 charger
The built-in NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT is responsible for these good results. It provides also sufficient performance for playing up-to-date games in a high resolution. So, performance is one of the MacBook's strengthes, although it is still slightly outperformed by the comparably equipped Asus G1S in the practical test. Acer Aspire 3102 chargerFurthermore, the reviewed notebook was equipped with a total of 2GB main memory (2x 1GB, 667 MHz) and a 160GB 5400 revs/min hard disk. Regarding hard disk there is also a 7200 revs/min hard disk available.
Further information about the video card can be found here or in our comparison of mobile video cards.Acer Aspire 3102NWLMi charger Detailed information about the Core 2 Duo CPU can be found here. Please also look at our benchmark list of mobile processors or at our benchmark list of mobile video cards, in order to compare this notebook to other configurations.Overall, the Geforce 8600M GT is well fit for games, even for up-to-date demanding games. However, for absolute top performance the demanding gamer should rather choose a forthcoming Geforce 8700M GT or a 8800M.Acer Aspire 3102WLMi charger
A special strength of the MacBook Pro is its low emissions in idle mode and under load. Acer Aspire 3103 charger Considering the excellent equipment this aspect is even more interesting. Apple was once again able to combine first-class performance with very low noise emissions by an innovative ventilation technology. In idle mode the notebook is hardly audible. Under load the fan continuously speeds up and finally reaches a noise level of just 42dB. If the load falls, the fan reacts immediately and reduces its revolution speed and therewith also the noise level at once. Under Windows the measured emissions are a little higher. Obviously, this is the result of a better optimized energy/performance management under MacOS.Acer Aspire 3104 charger
The rather decently running fan and a well thermoconducting case cause a clear temperature increase under load especially at the back part of the case, where the vent holes are located. However, at the keyboard and the front part the overall temperature is within reasonable limits. Acer Aspire 3104WLMiB120 charger
At the bottom side there aren't any vent holes. So, the air necessary for cooling is ingested trough the keyboard and blown off through the back edge. This avoids considerably heating of the input devices and makes the notebook fit for use on soft surfaces.Acer Aspire 3104WLMiB80 charger
The sound of the two speakers is clear and present. Weaknesses are the maximum volume and the basses. However, overall the speakers are alright. The notebook also be directly and lossless connected to an existing sound system by means of an optical out. So, it is possible to fully enjoy music.Acer Aspire 3104WLMiB80F charger
The 60 Wh 10.8 V lithium-polymer charger of the MacBook does not only look good, it also provides the notebook with sufficient energy for a useful mobile use. The runtime ranges from more than one hour to more than 4 hours at optimized energy settings under Windows. From experience the runtime is even better under MacOS.Acer Aspire 3690 charger
Apple MacBook Pro 15 Inch "Santa Rosa"The only thing we can say about the MacBook Pro's design and workmanship is: first class. Of course this is to some degree our personal impression, but the first class materials (case completely made of aluminum) and the reliable workmanship contribute to this impression. Acer Aspire 5100 charger
Maybe you'll need some time to adapt to the keyboard layout, especially if you are a Windows user. The enter key could also be a little bigger. However, typing is very user-friendly. The display convinces by concise resolution, excellent brightness, and a non-reflecting surface. All together this allows an outdoor operation without limitations, even in very bright environments. The charger runtime passably ranges from one to four hours and does also not limit the mobile use. Acer Aspire 5101 charger
Also the performance of the MacBook Pro is excellent. It is equipped with the, at the time of writing, most powerful mobile CPU, the C2D T7700 with 2.4 GHz. A Geforce 8600M GT ensures first-class video performance and makes the MacBook Pro fit for playing even demanding games. It's a miracle, how Apple could put this first-class equipment into such a slim case and also keep the noise emissions low at the same time. You can only call it: Art - The art to design top-class and sophisticated mobile notebooks.Acer Aspire 3690 charger

The screen's reproducible color spectrum is a bit asynchronous in comparison to the sRGB profile used by professionals, but still unexpectedly good for this price range. The much larger area of the AdobeRGB profile is however not covered. This rules out the 4535s as an insider tip for professional graphic designers at most and is rather irrelevant for home users. HP BJ803AA
HP ProBook 4535s vs. adobeRGBA brightness of 177 cd/m2 on battery power just still enables outdoor use, although it's significantly restricted. An affordable 15 inch laptop with backlight that is also feasible in outdoor use would for example be the Samsung 200B5B-S01DE for about €200. It's equally matt screen manages 250 cd/m2 on battery power.HP EH767AA
Viewing angles: HP ProBook 4535s-LG855EA As common for low-cost, matt displays, we notice that the ProBook 4535s' screen fades to some extent when the vertical viewing angle is changed slightly. Here, the picture degenerates quite fast. The image is a bit more stable horizontally, but it's only possible to a certain degree for several people to enjoy a movie on the screen at the same time.HP EH768AA
The "older brother", the ProBook 4530s, still used Intel Core i processors. The heart of the 4535s is the somewhat weaker AMD-CPU, HP EH768UTA4-3300M with an integrated AMD Radeon HD 6480G graphics solution. As appropriate for a business laptop, this APU also enables fast work: Office programs open rather quickly in Windows in the factory default settings and the notebook awakes from sleep within a few seconds. The quite good office performance is not least made possible by the 4 GB of RAM and the fast 7200 rpm hard disk. The booting time is still acceptable with about 1 minute and 20 seconds, while the notebook's shutdown time of 8 seconds is quite fast.HP HSTNN-DB22
The CPU performance is determined with Cinebench R10 and R11.5. The AMD CPU of the A4 series clearly lags behind the Intel i3 processors in the benchmarks. The rates of the Intel i3-2310M CPU installed in the ProBook 4530s are about one third higher than that of this processor. And even the Intel Pentium P6200 in the nearly €100 cheaper HP 630-LH384EA beats the AMD processor in this benchmark.HP HSTNN-DB23
In contrast to the Core i3 Intel chip, the AMD A4-3300M, with TurboCore 2.0, has a boost that clocks the computing cores up to 2.5 GHz during load. The processor's default clock rate of 1.9 GHz is clocked down to about 800 MHz without load and in energy saving mode. The full capacity (incl. clock adjustment) is also available on battery power.HP HSTNN-FB21
While the subjective impression of the fast all round performance has been mentioned, the benchmark with PCMark delivers quite opposite results. The ProBook 4535s doesn't come close to the score of the Intel based ProBook 4530s here, either. The latter clearly beats the AMD APU laptop with 5200 points to 3464 points in PCMark Vantage. Even the aforementioned cheaper HP 630 manages a better score with 3598 points. The 4535s can first beat the HP 630 by a few hundred points in PCMark 7.HP HSTNN-XB21

320 GB can only be called mass memory in a literary sense nowadays since TB hard disks in a 2.5 inch size have also become affordable. However, when the laptop is to be used, as intended, mainly for Office work, this capacity is fully sufficient. The hard disk ensures fast access due to its 7200 revolutions per minute - more often than not only hard disks with 5400 rpm are installed into notebooks of this price range, as in the 4530s version we reviewed.HP HSTNN-XB23
The high speed rate is noticed positively in the maximum data read rate of 111.5 MB per second in the test with HDTune. The average rate of 69.3 MB/s is however moderate for a 7200 rpm hard disk. The hard disk can be easily replaced even by inexperienced users because the bottom doesn't have any screws.HP KU529AA
The graphics solution, AMD Radeon HD 6480G, is also integrated in the AMD A4-3300M. It is able to marginally beat the Intel HD Graphics 3000 in the ProBook 4530s in the gaming benchmark with 3DMark, whereby all other performance tests are in favor of the Intel processor. As expected, the budget model, 4535s of HP's business range, isn't a 3D miracle either. HP RW556AANevertheless, the AMD graphics scores well for an Office notebook for less than €500. The considerably less expensive HP 630 can beat our 4535s in processor performance, but is clearly defeated in graphics performance.
According to the manufacturer, the green "AMD Vision Pro" sticker is to indicate that this device is still sufficient for multitasking and basic image editing, among other things. A test with the latest trial version of Adobe Photoshop confirms this.HP 431325-321Thanks to the aforesaid satisfactory graphics performance for this price range, even simpler games run on the ProBook 4535s. Starcraft II can be played smoothly on the 15 inch device with adapted, low settings. Our benchmark uses the minimum resolution of 1023x768, but the strategy game also still runs relatively good in the native resolution of 1366x768.
Deus Ex Human Revolution is a current DirectX 11 shooter and isn't really playable despite the above average graphics card for this price range. Although the game's settings allow switching to DirectX 10, high frame rates are especially important in shooters and the game isn't fun with an average of 26 fps.HP 441131-001
Serious gamers should look for a notebook with at least an NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M - the latest games run reasonably smooth on this game card and higher. Nevertheless, a high-end solution like the GeForce GTX 560M, as built into the Asus G74SX-3DE, is needed for nearly uncompromising gaming fun.HP HSTNN-OB37
The fan is almost always active even during undemanding operation. Although it is only audible in absolute silence, it partly turns up for a short time in more demanding applications and becomes noticeable by a whistling noise. Our lab measurements of noise confirm the fan's permanent operation. However the measurements don't show the clearly audible differences in single levels.HP HSTNN-OB38
The permanently active fan at least has the advantage that the notebook's temperature hardly increases significantly. A disagreeable temperature isn't noticed on the bottom or on the metal wrist rest. Our lab measurements of the case temperatures confirm this as well - a maximum of 34.5 degrees Celsius were measured. Thus it's possible to watch a DVD, surf on the Internet, play simple games or even run more demanding games comfortably with the notebook on the lap.HP HSTNN-UB37
The manufacturer advertises the notebook's speaker quality with "SRS Premium Sound". However, HP likely only expresses that the sound isn't completely bottom of the barrel, as in many notebooks from the low-priced range. Simple video playback partly isn't possible due to lack of volume.HP HSTNN-XB37 The stereo speakers of the ProBook 4535s aren't exactly a treat for the ears, but are more than sufficient for listening to music and watching videos. The maximum volume is even enough to fill a whole room with sound.
The included 65 watt power adapter is sufficiently sized for the notebook's power consumption. According to our measurements, the ProBook 4535s consumes a maximum of 41.1 watts during load. That is slightly less than the maximum consumption of the 4530s. However, when we consider that the Intel i3 processor is also more powerful, both devices are on a par.HP RQ203AA
The ProBook 4535s is disappointing in the maximum possible battery life. The business laptop only achieves a bit less than 6 hours in the BatteryEater Reader's test. This is despite the fact that the processor is continuously throttled to 800 MHz in energy saving mode. The 4530s or the Samsung 200B5B, both with the same battery capacity of 47 watt hours but an Intel i3, ran up to a maximum of 8 hours.HP F2024
The ProBook 4535s is within the range of the aforesaid contenders. It manages good 5 hours in the more significant practical use test, tested by means of simple surfing via WLAN and working with Office programs.HP F2024-80001We ran the laptop in energy saving mode while watching a DVD. The WLAN module was disabled and the display brightness was reduced to about 50%, which supplies a sufficiently good picture indoors. A charged battery is enough for playing one or two movies in view of a runtime of 3 hours and 40 minutes.
It may look like HP is allegorically selling silverware at a bargain price, in view of a business notebook in an aluminum case for less than €500. Though nothing's been saved on the case, cutbacks have been made inside the computer: The screen is at most satisfactory,HP F2024-80001A but the fairly weak AMD processor doesn't really consume less power than the Intel contenders; the manufacturer only grants a 12 month warranty and extra accessories can't be expected for this price either.
The AMD Fusion chip, made up of the A4-3330M processor and the Radeon 6480G graphics unit, nevertheless supplies an up to date performance and keeps its promise: The ProBook 4535s is fully sufficient for office and basic multimedia tasks. That's not least due to the 7200 rpm hard disk and the 4 GB of RAM.HP F2024A
The laptop is also suitable for the office thanks to fast awakening from sleep, the good chiclet keyboard, the matt screen and the battery life of 4 to 5 hours. With the HP ProBook 4535s, buyers get a notebook with a pretty good value for money ratio, which seems suitable for home users without special requirements for just under €500.HP F2024B
All-rounder with GeForce GT 630M. Acer is one of the first manufacturers to build in the brand new GeForce 600 series from Nvidia. The battery life of the Aspire 5755G isn't to be neglected either, despite the installed quad core CPU and midrange GPU: The Optimus technology makes it possible. The stylish design and attractive price are other selling points.HP F2111The range of multimedia notebooks is so immense that even experts quickly lose the overview. Just alone Nvidia's GeForce GT 540M is installed a multitude of times. It's not easy to find the right device in this downright vast mass of laptops.
Acer has launched an interesting candidate with the latest hardware called Aspire 5755G-2678G1TMtks.HP F2111-60901 The 15 inch multimedia machine not only has an Intel quad core Sandy Bridge processor (Core i7-2670QM) but also eight GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1000 GB HDD. Nvidia's newest midrange model, GT 630M, is used as the graphics card. Another highlight is the dynamic graphics switching that ensures moderate power consumption. The price: nearly €900. If a BluRay drive is to be included, there is the model 2678G1TBtks for a surcharge of €100 available.Whether Acer has set up a successful total package or if cutbacks have again been made on the screen can be found out in this review.HP F2193
Sensitive lidA glance at the box already hints that Acer offers its Aspire 5755G in four different colors. Lid and side surfaces are available in red, brown, blue or black, depending on the model. The keyboard area and wrist rest gleam in a matt silver gray (aluminum look) regardless of the model. Numerous black elements (keyboard, speaker bar & display bezel) supply nice accents. HP F2193-80001
The design and shape are throughout successful. The notebook looks neither conservative nor extravagant. The 15 inch laptop can be carried around comfortably with a weight of 2.6 kilograms. The all-round device makes a good quality impression; the plastic surfaces are well manufactured. Merely the extremely sensitive high gloss lid (fine line texture) doesn't really fit into the overall picture. HP F2193-80001A
Furthermore, the stability is unsatisfactory. While the notebook's bottom yields marginally under stronger pressure, the top gives in evidently in the area of battery and drive. The lid isn't particularly rigid either. Moreover the hinges aren't perfect. Although the device can be opened easily with one hand, the screen partly wobbles noticeably on shaky surfaces.HP F3925-60901

At first you'll notice that the X61 T misses a touch pad out. But, once you've worked with the user-friendly red track point for a while, you'll be glad doing it without a touch pad, and raise the question, why this best mouse replacement did not became the standard and was not established overall.Toshiba PABAS217 charger The track point does not only ease quick navigation, it also demands less space. The keyboard has a concise, clearly structured, and user-friendly layout. This is except of the Fn key, because it swapped space with the Ctrl key.
Typing is comfortably silent without clattering. We were also pleased by the user-friendly point of pressure. Furthermore, many hot keys are provided, some of them twice, to be accessible also in tablet mode.Toshiba PABAS218 chargerThe most striking hot key is the ThinkVantage button, which can be used to invoke a menu covering a number of Lenovo specific tools. It provides, e.g., help for networking, data security, and a number of settings. If you press this button during system start-up, the recovery system will be started allowing to backup and restore data.
However, we were most interested in the pen, because we were not used to using the X61 tablet by pen on the display. The X61 tablet recognizes the pen already, if it is still 2 cm off the display, and marks this by a small circle. Clicking with the button at the pen's side is equivalent to a right mouse click.Toshiba PABAS219 charger Navigating is alright, but, the point marked at the display is about 1mm moved to the right. Furthermore, we sometimes received the impression, that the track point only reacts slowly.
Therefore, we felt that the track point combined with the keyboard is the best input alternative. But, the pen is better for notes, drawings, and drafts, even more, because it recognizes a number of different pressure levels.Toshiba PABAS220 charger
Color DiagramThe X61 Tablet is equipped with a 12.1" display with a maximum resolution of 1024x768 pixels. It captivates by a very good stability to the vantage point and gets only fuzzy at extremely acute angles. The brightness is just sufficient for outdoor usage, but, reading the display gets cumbersome in the sun. Toshiba PA3535U-1BAS charger
Although we first thought, that the display's resolution is low, we soon understood this decision of the designers. A higher resolution would have made navigating and precisely positioning the pen difficult. The color diagram depicts a nearly ideal red and blue color curve, and a lowered green color curve. Also subjectively the image seems a little bit yellowish.Toshiba PA3781U-1BRS charger
The measured minimum brightness of the display (black value) amounted to 0.3 cd/m² and gives together with the maximum brightness of 119.1 cd/m² a maximum contrast of 397:1. While black value and contrast are very good, we were a little bit underwhelmed by the maximum brightness, even it was subjectively better. Toshiba PABAS216 charger We could not detect any anomalies regarding speed of reaction. The display of X61 Tablet surprised us with automatic dimming in battery mode. However, it can be disabled by BIOS settings.
It was pretty clear that the X61 Tablet won't provide outstanding performance. However, the Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 with 1.6 Ghz and Intel's integrated video solution, an Intel GMA 950, are too weak.Toshiba PA3634U-1BAS chargerHowever, 2 GB main memory kept hope alive that at least office performance is alright. Finally, it turned out, that the performance is actually sufficient for office work under Windows Vista. As pure office notebook, this Tablet PC is, in the reviewed configuration with best available equipment, quite alright.
However, it is completely insufficient for occasional games. It is not even possible to play Doom III with 8,5 FPS in the lowest resolution. Even older games cause problems, e.g., Quake 3 Arena reaches with best settings only an average of 24 FPS. Toshiba PA3634U-1BRS charger
Playing games with the X61 Tablet is like attending a car race with a Jeep: Not in the right ballpark. However, the Thinkpad's performance is sufficient for its main field of operation. Furthermore, the battery runtime is long, because of low-energy components. Further information about the video card can be found here or in our comparison of mobile video cards. Please also look at our benchmark list of mobile processors or at our benchmark list of mobile video cards, in order to compare this notebook to other configurations.Toshiba PA3635U-1BAM PA3635U-1BAS charger
Although the surface temperatures of the Thinkpad X61 Tablet are generally alright, they are too high in Tablet mode, if you work lap top. At the bottom side the temperature increased to up to 46°C, at the hand ball support it was also as high as 35°C.Toshiba PA3635U-1BRM charger
The Battery Clearly Exceeds the CaseA special strengths of the X61 Tablet is its long battery runtime. However, it is only reached with the also, for an additional charge, available 8 cells battery. Anyway, above 8 hours maximum runtime is impressing. During WLAN operation, which is most common in practice, the battery runtime also exceeded 3 hours with high brightness. This is still sufficient for lessons, etc. Toshiba PA3635U-1BRS PA3636U-1BAL charger
Lenovo Thinkpad X61 TThe Thinkpad X61 Tablet is a first-class equipped notebook, which costs as much as 2800€. It produces unimpeachable evidence that unique design, fantastic features, and high-quality materials are not only provided by Apple. Furthermore, this Lenovo notebook captivates by excellent battery runtime, Toshiba PA3636U-1BAR chargergood display, impressing quality, and tablet functions, which are robust, but not outstanding. For most of you the X61s, which is equally equipped than the X61 Tablet, but, does not provide tablet function and cost about 600€ less, might be the better choice.
Multimedia Nexus. Desktop replacement notebooks are a dime a dozen, and Lenovo has tossed its hat into the ring with its introduction of the IdeaPad Y570, a strange hybrid between a media center and a portable business notebook. While the last part could be a little doubtful, the Y570’s style, fit, finish, and power-saving features make it an attractive pick for the shopper interested in a multimedia center with no compromises.Toshiba PA3636U-1BRL PA3636U-1BRS charger
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y570.The revamped IdeaPad Y series, announced in 2008, represents an odd outgrowth of Lenovo’s notebook development – exhibiting both the solid build quality of the company’s rugged ThinkPad line of business laptops and the flashy equipment and baubles of the standard consumer notebook market.Toshiba PA3832U-1BRS charger As such, this particular model, the Y570, competes with similar offerings by Acer (Aspire TimelineX 5830TG-6402), HP (Pavilion dv6-6153cl), Samsung (RV520-W01), Dell (XPS 15z), and even Apple (MacBook Pro 15-inch). And although it plays host to a wide variety of novel technologies and pretty gadgets, weight and display choice make it a hard sell against the other runners. The brushed-metal lid of the Y570 features a curious maze-like dot pattern. (courtesy Lenovo, Inc.)
Let's take a look at the screen lid a little closer, shall we?The Lenovo IdeaPad Y570, with its weight and size, sits firmly in the “desktop replacement” category of notebooks, and Lenovo spared no expense in making the case as sexy as possible. In a move that reminds us of the HP Pavilion series of notebooks,Toshiba PA3833U-1BRS chargerthe screen lid features acres of black brushed-metal with an attractive, minimalist maze-like dot pattern; unfortunately, the slightly-glossy surface treatment of both the screen lid and the inside of the laptop tends to trap fingerprints like nobody’s business.
The screen mounts to the main body of the notebook via two sturdy hinges, and is protected at the contact points by rubber spacers. On the inside, the laptop features brushed metal again, this time in languid lavender, with accents of orange, black and white on the keyboard. Toshiba PA3638U-1BAP chargerWhite is used as the LED color for the power, key-lock, and volume buttons/indicators, while orange is used as an accent color on the keyboard itself to point out key combinations triggered by use of the Fn key.
The space above the keyboard on the laptop’s base is occupied by 2 JBL speakers, the power button, a dedicated Lenovo OneKey Rescue button (more information in the Built-In Software/Accessories section), volume control keys, a screen brightness/contrast hotkey, and a fan speed hotkey. The space above the screen contains a 2.0-megapixel webcam, flanked on either side by labeled microphones.Toshiba PA3638U-1BRS PA3728U-1BAS charger
All the attractive colors and textures aside, let’s not confuse ourselves here, folks; the Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 is a big, bruising hulk of a notebook, at a hefty 5.95 pounds – and the rigidity of the case doesn’t disappoint. No flex in the screen or keyboard can be detected, even with rather violent applications of force toward the usual failure points. Toshiba PA3816U-1BRS PA3817U-1BAS chargerAs with most other recently-designed laptops, the exhaust slot of the computer points to the left of the user, preventing the unfortunate burning of our thighs…or our tender parts. However, there’s also no way of getting around it: the IdeaPad Y570 is too heavy to stand a chance against similarly-equipped yet lighter competitors like Dell’s XPS 15z (≈5.5 lbs.) and Samsung’s RV520-W01 (5.4 lbs.), even though its heft is a welcome indicator of build quality.Toshiba PA3818U-1BAS PA3818U-1BRS charger
Ports and connections labeled (adapted from Lenovo website). The blue numbers represent USB 3.0 ports, which were not present in the original image.Switchable graphics (onboard / NVidia GT 555M), wireless modem toggle switchesIf there is truly a singular point at which the Lenovo IdeaPad and ThinkPad series completely diverge,Toshiba PA3819U-1BAS charger it’s in the choice of connections on each notebook line. The ThinkPad line tends to feature the bare minimum of ports necessary for the business setting, whereas the Y570, like the rest of the revamped IdeaPad Y series, features a bevy of connectivity options since its goal is to appeal to traditional consumers.
The right side of the laptop’s baseplate is taken up largely by the Slimtype DVD/CD combo drive. The side closer to the front of the computer consists of two USB 3.0 ports, with the power jack and Kensington lock connector on the other side. The front of the computer contains only the SD card jack, Toshiba PA3819U-1BRS PABAS117 chargeras well as two toggle switches: the first for switching between discrete and onboard graphics, and the second for turning on and off the wireless modem. Finally, on the left side of the laptop can be found a VGA analog input, an HDMI jack, the Ethernet port, a combination USB/eSATA port followed by a USB 2.0 port, and headphone and microphone jacks.
We have to note here that Lenovo took a poor design choice regarding port placement. Mainly, most ports are constrained to either side of the case, meaning cables and equipment can become crowded and entangled more easily. Still, we applaud the fact that the power cable attaches to its jack on the right side of the laptop using a right-angle plug, Toshiba PABAS118 chargerwhich protrudes less than straight power connectors and reduces the risk of damaging the connector during daily use.
If there’s any complaint we have with Lenovo’s connection design, it’s a general one that we'd aim at plenty of other laptop manufacturers; folks, give a little bit more distance between the Kensington lock slot and other ports on the laptop! In the case of the Y570, the lock slot is dangerously close to the power jack, Toshiba PA3757U-1BRS chargerand while it probably isn’t a problem for most users, we’ve seen our share of large and bulky computer locks, and more than a few of them wouldn’t be able to connect simultaneously with an AC adapter.
The IdeaPad Y570 possesses the usual assortment of networking options. RJ-45 connectivity is powered by the Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet NIC, rated for 10/100/1000 Mbit/s communication speed, while the wireless connection is served by Intel’s WiFi link 1000 BGN, which is rated for 300 Mbps throughput. Our review model was equipped with an optional Bluetooth module as well, the 65-nm BCM2070 integrated chip from Broadcom.Toshiba PABAS213 charger
All three networking modules worked as advertised out of the box. Connecting to LANs was fast and without error, and when using wireless, we were able to connect to 802.1x managed infrastructures just as easily as unmanaged 802.11bgn home/business networks.Toshiba PABAS227 PABAS228 charger
Lenovo’s IdeaPad Y570 comes pre-installed with a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and hardware drivers, as well as a helpful smattering of pre-installed software, including Google Chrome, trial versions of McAfee Antivirus Plus and Microsoft Office 2010, and Microsoft Live Essentials 2011. Toshiba PABAS117 charger In addition, Lenovo has provided a few “tools”, most of which could be classified in the bloatware category:
In hindsight, the loadout of Lenovo software of questionable utility isn’t too bad when compared to recent offerings from, say, ASUS. But it’s far from acceptable, especially given that most of these utilities cramp productivity and can be replaced by free, more capable, easier-to-use software. Our suggestion? Ditch DirectShare, Games Console, Toshiba PABAS178 chargerSmile Dock, ooVoo, Power2Go, VeriFace, and UserGuide. Navigate over to Ninite.com and at the bare minimum, install Pidgin (replacing ooVoo) and imgBurn (replacing Power2Go).
Thankfully, the provided built-in hardware isn’t as bloated. As hinted earlier in the Case section, the dedicated OneKey rescue button above the keyboard ties together with the OneKey Rescue software, which allows one to restore the computer to a previous state via recovery console, make a backup of the system into an image file, or create a recovery disc in case normal system function gets disrupted. Toshiba PA3535U-1BRS charger
The IdeaPad Y570 also comes with a few accessories. If you want to be able to use the Y570 as a home theater PC (HTPC), and control the experience from a distance, the Lenovo Wireless Keyboard N5901, with its built-in mouse and USB interface, could be up your alley. Teleconference types could look into the Lenovo Headset P550, and/or the Lenovo Notebook Stand S1801A.Toshiba PA3816U-1BRS charger

Windows Vista Business 32-Bit is pre-installed by default,HP 454931-001which is quite alright with a total capacity of 3 GB RAM. If one should choose to upgrade to more than 4 GB RAM, a 64-Bit operating system is definitely a better choice, since 32-Bit systems can only address up to 4 GB of RAM. The integrated graphics adapter and the operating system already use up quite a large part of those 4 GB, meaning that only a bit more than 3 GB actually remain for the user.HP 455804-001
Additionally, one can downgrade to Windows XP, drivers and tools for that are fortunately available on HP's website.Depending on the country, the 2230s is also partly available with pre-installed FreeDos, at a lower price. One could still install Windows XP or Windows Vista Business later, if one already had a license.HP 460143-001
We were especially excited about SUSE Linux Desktop 10, which should be compatible to this device, as stated by the manufacturer. The installation is carried out via an image for SUSE Linux Desktop 10 SP2, SLED-10-SP2-x86_64-DVD1.iso, downloaded from Novell's homepage. Access to updates is available for 60 days through a requestable activation code (free of charge), a version including a year-long access to updates is available for about 47 Euros. HP 462337-001
No problems came up during the installation at first, but the auto-detect routines do not seem to be too comprehensive, the network devices were not discovered and the included Marvell Yukon card does not appear on the list for manual selection either. Not surprisingly, internet access via wired or wireless LAN was not available right after the installation, we did not try any further due to lack of time.HP EV088AA
In any way, the support for included components is frustrating considering the fact that the operating system is listed as compatible, it is thus not recommendable for Linux beginners. Further attempts with a Linux Life CD (Knoppix 6.0) showed that no WLAN-access is possible without further interventions. In contrast, internet-access over the wired adapter did work immediately.HP EV089AA
All in all the keyboard offers a good feel, featuring a standard layout. The normal keys are about 18mm wide and about 17mm deep, which is sufficient for a mini-notebook. However, this was reached at the expense of other important keys which became smaller in turn, for instance the really smal shift-keys. Additionally, the up-key was placed just to the right of the right shift key, making mistakes while typing probable in the beginning. HP EX940AA
At large, the keyboard's layout appears to be somewhat left-leaning, due to the very small keys at the left edge (especially "^", tab, Caps Lock key, left shift-key, left ctrl-key). Therefore, the right hand will partly be placed on the touch pad when touch typing, due to the relative position of touch pad and keyboard. Fortunately, the touch pad is not too sensitive in terms of "tap-to-click".HP EX941AA
Stroke, feedback and compressive strength of the single keys are without any distinctive feature. HP HSTNN-C17CThe keyboard can become quite noisy when typing aggressively, especially the space bar.Additional keys are featured through touch sensitive areas on a bar above the keyboard. These are used for launching the HP Info Center (Presentation Settings), which is used for starting any user-defined application. It also allows for controlling the wireless module, as well as muting and volume.HP HSTNN-DB31
The touchpad, measuring 72mm in width and 53mm in depth, is quite comfortable for a 12"-device. Its surface's gliding properties are not optimal, but still good. Mechanically seen, it is very precise, the pointer can be brought to any position with ease. Fortunately, there's also a vertical, optically marked area for scrolling, but it is not possible to simply switch off the touch pad via a key or a combination with the fn-key.HP HSTNN-DB32
The touchpad's keys are toggle switches, their stroke, sound and sensitivity is alright once one gets used to press the side facing the user. HP HSTNN-IB31The keys are not really quiet, but not noisy either. There is a finger print reader as well, located on the bottom right corner, its location might not be optimal at times. Depending on one's individual habits, one might happen to accidentally hit the reader, with the palm of the hand, automatically causing the HP ProtectTools Security Manager to start. Moreover, the reader might be calibrated a bit too sensitive: we could not get it to read prints of the same finger, recognized as identical, while trying to register a finger print.HP HSTNN-IB32
As a notebook really suited for professional usage, the HP Compaq 2230s of course features a display with a matt surface. From an ergonomic point of view, it is good that the 12.1" LCD display (Typ:CMO 1232 (N121IA-L01) von Chi Mei Optoelectronics) barely reflects at all, making it suited for permanent professional usage at workstations as well. The WXGA-panel's native resolution is a common 1280x800 pixel. HP HSTNN-IB42
HP Compaq 2230s during outdoor usageThe 16:10 wide-screen LCD- display reached an average value of 187 cd/m² during the measurement of light density, the screen should be somewhat brighter for being able to comfortably work outside. HP HSTNN-LB31
The contrast (using the power supply) reached a value of about 184:1,HP HSTNN-LB42 with a minimal brightness (black value) of 1.12 cd/m² and maximum value of 206 cd/m² for brightness in the screen's center. The HP Compaq 2230s reached a good value of 83% for illumination. This means that the variance of light density (during mains operation) between the brightest (center) and the darkest segment of the display (bottom right corner) amounted to about 17% (170.3 cd/m²). A maximum brightness of only 186.1 cd/m² could be measured while using the battery.HP HSTNN-OB31
While subjectively looking at background pictures of a different brightness, HP HSTNN-OB42one can, depending on the angle of viewing, only find minor formation of shades on the HP Compaq 2230s' display.Measuring the reachable angles of viewing also brought a very good result horizontally, but the optimal angles for viewing and slanting are quite a bit lower vertically. The picture shown is, subjectively seen, sharp and legible, despite the high resolution.HP NBP6A48A1
Despite what the labels on the case and the information on HP's homepage says, HP 462889-121 the HP Compaq 2230s is based on the Centrino 2 platform and does allow for choosing an up-to-date Penryn CPU. The model we tested featured a Penryn Core 2 Duo P7370 CPU (manufactured in 45nm) at 2 GHz. Besides those Core 2 Duo Pxxx processors, which have a low power loss of 25 watt, one can also choose from Core 2 Duo Txxx CPUs, which have a somewhat higher Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 35 watt. HP 462889-421
Therefore, one cannot really criticize the overall performance of the tested HP Compaq 2230s (featuring two DDR2 modules, HP 462890-151 PC2-6400, and a total capacity of 3,096 MB) with Windows Vista Business installed. The system supports a maximum of 8 Gigabyte RAM with the compatible modules, as HP states. The notebook's performance is therefore sufficient for the usual work around the office and the use of such applications. The business-notebook reaches a fairly good performance value of 4181 points in PCMark 05. The integrated chipset graphics adapter (Intel GMA 4500 MHD) is also designed for this range of applications.HP 462890-161
An Intel GMA 4500MHD suffices as an integrated graphics solution for the HP Compaq 2230s,HP 462890-251 its performance is certainly enough for the usual office applications. It is also by far sufficient for presenting Windows Vista's Aero-Glass, but better solutions are available for gaming and displaying more complex 3D-applications. The HP Compaq 2230s reaches a score of only 1487 points in the benchmark 3DMark03, using the Intel driver version 7.15.10.1502. The CB-GFX-value of 510 the 4500MHD reached in a shading-test with Maxon's Cinebench R10 is also reltively low. HP 462890-541
Vista performance indexThere are also some options to choose from in terms of mass storage for the HP Compaq 2230s: Serial-ATA-hard disks with a capacity of 160, HP 462890-751250, or 320 Gigabyte are available, but only at 5400 rpm. Moreover, the HP 3D Drive Guard protects the hard disk from losing data through shocks, at least to a certain degree, since the hard disk is firmly connected to the notebook's frame on the one side. On the other side, a 3D-sensor notices sudden movement, causing the HP Drive guard software to park the hard disk's head in the worst possible case. HP 462890-761
The model we tested featured a 250GB, 5400 rpm Serial-ATA hard disk from Seagate (ST9250827AS), which achieved an average data transfer rate of 49,3 MB/s in HD Tune's hard disk test. A further mass storage device offered by the tested HP Compaq 2230s is an optical drive (TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633L) by Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Cooperation.HP 482186-003
The notebooks becomes fairly loud right after switching it on,HP 484170-001 but the system noise evens out to an average of 34.2 dB(A) while idling. Nevertheless, top values of up to 40.9 dB(A) were measured in idle mode.Under work load, this notebook does not become much more noisy with a maximum value of 42.1 dB(A), but this noise level is clearly audible. While the hard disk works fairly quietly at 33.1 dB(A), the optical drive works noisily at 49.5 dB(A) while transfering data, it works a bit more quiet while playing DVDs (38.4 dB(A)).HP 484170-002

Review MSI GX 400 Gaming Notebook
Posted On 2011-12-26 08:03:46 in เรื่องทั่วๆ ไป
At normal load, whether in office use of surfing the internet, the case temperatures remained in an ever uncritical range and facilitate a problem-free operation of the netbook on the thighs.Sony VGP-BPS9/S
The Acer Aspire One 531 provides an adequate acoustic environment for the user with two loudspeakers in the front edge in the lower area. For a netbook the sound on offer as well as the maximum possible volume are thoroughly acceptable. Indeed, you can't ignore the usual weaknesses at low frequencies, which are standard of netbooks without subwoofers.Sony VGP-BPS9A/S
The provided headphone jack is without criticism which offers clear tones and is thoroughly suited to audio playback through external speakers or a Hi-Fi system. Certainly you'll enjoy full and clear sound with high quality headphones.
Acer has arranged two battery solutions for the Aspire One 531. There is a 3-cell battery with a capacity of 24.4 Wh as well as a 6-cell battery pack with a capacity of 57.7 Wh, at least according to the statements on Acer's home page. Our test sample was equipped with the 6-cell battery, which admittedly didn't quite match up to Acer's claim with a slightly smaller capacity of 54 Wh. Sony VGP-BPS9/B
Interestingly the battery life of our test sample remained, in parts, clearly behind the results of the Aspire One D150 which has a similar hardware configuration. The minimally smaller battery in the netbook at hand can only partly explain this phenomenon.Sony VGP-BPS9A/B
The maximum possible battery life at minimum brightness, deactivated WLAN and Bluetooth as well as using Windows' energy saving profile, achieved by the system is 450 minutes in the BatteryEater readers test, so round about 7.5 hours. Sony VGP-BPS9
Under load this is cut short to 237 minutes (BatteryEater classic test, max. brightness, WLAN and Bluetooth on, desktop profile).
Also in practical WLAN surfing with maximum brightness and the energy saving profile on the recorded battery life of 292 minutes (just short of 5 hours), which is essentially lower than the battery life of the Aspire One D150 in the same conditions. Overall the time away from the mains achieved by the device's battery can be considered satisfactory for a netbook. The battery life of the smaller 3-cell battery should be around 50% of the measurements for the 6-cell battery tested here.Sony VGP-BPS10
Acer Aspire One 531 Visually, the new case of the Acer Aspire One 531 is good. Not only the flattening of the base unit, but also the now predominant matte surfaces and the solid lines please straight away. The protruding 6-cell battery indeed seems an inconvenient and unsightly attachment but it is almost indispensable for a reasonable battery life. Also the overall weight of now only 1220 grams is a further plus point compared to the Aspire One D150 in the same display format.Sony VGP-BPS13
Neither the offered connection options nor the inbuilt keyboard leave anything worthy to say that's different from those in the One D150. Indeed the touchpad is considered as a strong additional feature, which in comparison with the D150 is essentially more pleasant to use and furthermore with its multi-touch capabilities it facilitates simplified operation in many kinds of situations. Unfortunately the pad is comparatively small in our eyes, so that the multi-touch advantages are limited.Sony VGP-BPS13S
The display offers the typical netbook workspace of 1024x600 pixels in the 10.1-inch WSVGA format. Thanks to LED technology the panel achieves good brightness and illumination. Admittedly, as usual the reflective display surfaces are cause for criticism. Granted, at the electrical superstore around the corner this will look tempting, but as a rule this is indeed not where a netbook is going to be used. In unfavourable lighting or even outdoors in the sunshine you quickly learn the flipside of the coin.Sony VGP-BPS13/Q
Acer dares not experiment with the inbuilt hardware with an Intel N280CPU and Intel GMA 950 graphics chip. Probably more than 90% of all current netbooks utilize components from the dominant chip-giant, Intel.
The Aspire One 531 above all profits from low heat emissions of the Intel components, at least in office use, which facilities a very silent operation of the mini-notebook. Sony VGP-BPS13/S
It's a shame that the 6-cell battery cramps the style of the Aspire One 531, but with the completely integrated 3-cell version the battery life would be simply too low in comparison to the competition. With the larger battery the battery life of around 5 hours in practical use the needs of most netbook users should indeed be met. Sony VGP-BPS13A/B
As for price, the One 531 sells for around 70.- Euro more than the Aspire One D150. Whoever is ready to invest in the successful design will surely be happy with the 531. Essentially, technical improvements are not to be found.Sony VGP-BPS13A/Q
With the launch of the GX and GT series, MSI continues to increase its control of the gaming sector. The company has a wide product range so that every enthusiastic gamer, who enjoys playing on the laptop, can find a laptop which fulfills his/her needs. Whether the buyer chooses to get a big, high performance gaming laptop, or a smaller, far more handy, but still good performance notebook, like the MSI GX 400, he/she will almost always find the perfect laptop in MSI's diverse product range.Sony VGP-BPS13A/S
MSI's gaming division can be basically divided into the GT and GX series. The main distinction between the two series is the available graphics performance. The GT series uses graphics cards from class 1 of our mobile graphics cards' comparison, while the GX series uses the weaker graphics cards from class 2 of our comparison. Sony VGP-BPS13AS
After having tested the other, somewhat bigger models from MSI, such as the GX600, the GX620 and the GT627 (all of which are 15 inch gaming laptops), we now turn towards the GX400, which is currently MSI's smallest gaming specialist. With a 14 inch display, the laptop strikes a fine balance between mobility and performance.Sony VGP-BPS13B/S
Although the GX400 is optically very different from, for example, the GX 620, some features of its case hint towards the origin of the laptop. For example, the cover panel (above the keyboard), under which one can find the speakers, also accomodates the well-known Turbo button. This button can be found in most MSI gaming machines, and it allows the user to overclock the installed CPU with the press of a button (further details can be found in the "performance" section of this review).Sony VGP-BPS13B/Q
While the other models of the GX series attempt to attract the buyer's attention with a myriad of colours, our test model, the GX 400, has a very conservative appearance. The case and keyboard of our model are both black, and there are no colourful imprints which attract the eye. The only colourful surface of the laptop is the dark blue display cover. MSI has dubbed this rather simple design the "Metal-Blue Edition", and, unfortunately for buyers in Europe, this is also the only colour scheme available.Sony VGP-BPS13B/B
As we do not think that a gaming laptop requires colourful, flashing LEDs, and a really stylish case, to be a proper gaming laptop, we must conclude that the MSI GX 400's design is good enough.Sony-vgp-bps13S
However, the manufacturer could not completely conceal the fact that the notebook belongs to a cheaper price segment. After all, the entire case consists of parts made of synthetic material. This is bad because the feel and the sturdiness of this material are not very convincing.Sony-vgp-bps2a
For example, even with the slightest pressure, the base of the laptop can be clearly bent inwards. The case does not react so well either when the front edge of the laptop is lifted up. This action makes the torsion in the base unit and the possible sources of creaking in the laptop evident.Sony-vgp-bps2b
The display is not really that much better. The dislay cover neither protects the display from high pressure nor does it protect it from possible torsions. The display hinges are another big mistake. These look hopelessly under-dimensioned, and they also can not hold the screen in place properly. In fact, the two hinges exert such little force that sooner or later the display will start opening and closing by itself, due to a lack of proper clamping force.Sony-vgp-bps2c
The HDMI port and the combined eSATA/USB interface are definitely two highlights of the MSI GX 400. The rest of the ports are standard, as they include two more USB ports, an analogue VGA output, and audio ports on the front of the notebook.Sony VGP-BPS8A
Depending the user's personal preferences, he/she will either be pleased or very unhappy with the positioning of the ports offered on the laptop. In the case of the GX 400, MSI has positioned the ports in such a way that their use could be considered okay as long as one does not use too many of them at the same time.Sony VGP-BPS8B
The ports based on the left side of the laptop (the VGA output, the HDMI port and eSATA interface) can be criticized as they are all grouped near the front half of the notebook. Left-handed users will definitely not be pleased when they see that even the cooler fan is positioned on the left side near the back, making life for them even harder.Sony VGP-BPS8
Right-handed users, on the other hand, benefit from the optical drive placed on the right edge, next to the only USB port near the back of the notebook. The optimal usage of the ports with the GX 400 would be the use of the power supply, the LAN, and the USB port, which can be used for the mouse, as they all lie on the back of the laptop, and to use them would mean that the right and left sides of the workplace are free of distracting cables.Sony VGP-BPL8
Front side: Audio ports Left side: Kensington Lock, VGA-Out, eSATA/USB, HDMI, ExpressCard 34mm, Cardreader Back side: Power supply, LAN, USB Right side: opt. optical drive, USBMSI has decided to equip the GX 400 with a Gigabit LAN connection, so that the user can enjoy the full bandwidth offered by the LAN cables in a multiplayer game. Sony VGP-BPL9
Together with the Intel Wireless 5100 WLAN module (standard 802.11 b/g/n) the hardware in the laptop ensures that all of the user's wireless needs are fulfilled. As an additional feature, the MSI GX 400 also has, depending on the model version, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. If the user wishes to equip the GX 400 with UMTS then he/she can do so over an external USB modem or the 34mm Expresscard port.Sony VGP-BPS10
The operating system, installed on the laptop, is the Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit). Despite the installed OS, MSI equipped the GX 400 with 4 GB RAM, which Vista definitely can not completely use. To use 100% of the RAM, it would be necessary to buy and install the 64-bit version of Vista. MSI did not offer alternatives to the operating system, Sony PCGA-BP7

Review of the Toshiba USB Hard Disk with 500 GB
Posted On 2011-12-23 09:14:35 in เรื่องทั่วๆ ไป
When working in practice, everything went pretty gentle, as typical of netbooks, but without longer periods of waiting during the usage of several applications at the same time. Converting with iTunes simply takes longer, World of Warcraft can only be played at a resolution of 800x600 with minimal details at an average of 14 fps, IBM 40Y6999 and image processing is feasible only for absolutely basic tasks, because of the low screen resolution alone. The system is sufficiently fast and smooth enough for tasks in accordance with the status, such as browser, text processing, and communication via email and skype.
Compared directly to other netbooks, such as the Lenovo Ideapad S10e, or the Samsung NC10, the Asus 1000HE is audibly louder, but is altogether still on a silent level and reaches 32-36 dB(A) without load. One only notices the definitely audible vent with 40.4 dB(A) at maximal load. When it comes to noise behavior,IBM 40Y7001 the extremely quiet characteristics of the vent are pleasant for most users. It does neither produce high frequency noises, nor does it change the speed of rotation often, but does its work very constantly.
Only the Seagate hard disk presented itself unusual in our test model in a "cold" state with a cracking which was 37 db(A) loud. This fainted after some operating time and reduced to a working noise of low profile 33.7 dB(A).IBM 40Y7003
The vents can also be influenced with the already mentioned eeectl tool, the sound level can be reduced somewhat with it. One should be aware of the risk, as with the display's brightness, and accept possible damages under a loss of warranty. With eeectl, we could reduce the sound level to 31.7 dB(A) without load, at a vent activity of 30%.IBM ASM 92P1168
On average, the temperatures measured are in the range of human body temperature and are not indicative of conspicuities or possible limitations. Even the top value of 40.3 °C, which can occur in the middle area of the underbody, is absolutely within reason and does not let surmise any limitations. IBM ASM 92P1170
The loudspeakers are located on the front area and radiate forwards. They are quite sufficient for listening to music without great expectations, and convince through an undistorted sound. However, they very much lack bass and have few medium notes, and are also treble-heavy (as typical of this class). Furthermore, they also suffer from a low maximum volume. As usual, one can produce relief quickly and cheaply through earphones or USB-loudspeakers to get more for the mobile usage as well. IBM ASM 92P1172
This is the Eee PC 1000HE's key skill. One readily accepts the device's somewhat higher weight of 1.46kg, due to the maximum battery life of - believe it or not - 512 minutes in the BatteryEater Reader's Test (maximal possible battery life). The mini notebook also features the necessary basic characteristics with a capacity of 62 Wh and a minimal consumption of 8.5 W.IBM ASM 92P1174
The Asus energy saver profile "Power Saving" plays a great role in the low minimal power consumption, it intervenes far deeper in the energy-management than one is used to from Windows XP's profiles. The most obvious action is the Atom CPU, stepped down to a clock rate of 750 Mhz, which nevertheless makes surprisingly fast browser activity and document processing possible. The display brightness, stepped down to the minimum (which we as usually used in this test as well), is rather less suited for working.IBM FRU 42T4505
In the WLAN-test, with browser activity and pleasing display brightness, the Eee PC still reaches surprising 433 minutes. This is more like the user's behavior in practice and is also an excellent value. Those who think the performance of the processor, stepped down to 750 Mhz, is too low, can still expect 386 minutes in the WLAN-test. IBM FRU 42T4506 Under maximal work load, which means a clock rate of 1.69 Ghz for the Eee PC 1000HE in the Asus "Super Performance" profile, the netbook still reaches tolerable 272 minutes battery life in the BatteryEater Classic Test. It measures minimally reachable battery life under load, with switched on Bluetooth, W-LAN and maximum brightness of the display (Asus).
All in all, the Asus cannot reach the 9.5 hours of independence from the mains in our test, as promised by Asus, but it is on a very high level with a battery life between 4.5 and 8.5 hours, and very good characteristics for the quality of running for a long time in practice. IBM FRU 92P1163
Whoever is looking for an especially enduring netbook should definitely shortlist the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Even if the design might not be everybody's taste: battery life and build quality can be very convincing. Moreover, the matt display with strong contrast has very good characteristics for indoors and only loses points through its too meager maximum brightness during outdoor usage.IBM FRU 92P1165
As the flipside of the quality of running for a long time, one has to accept the lower-than-usual performance when making full use of it, and the somewhat higher weight. The uptight touch pad was bothersome on the test model, and the noise development does not quite reach the standard of many competitors. Those who can put up with these limitations find a solid piece of mobile technique in this variant of the Eee PC.IBM FRU 92P1167
The extremely long battery life and the Asus energy saver profiles. The included neoprene sleeve is also nice and useful.A high ex factory display brightness, which makes outdoor usage possible without potential loss of warranty. That Asus used a matt display with excellent contrast values and even leaves behind the glossy competitors.IBM FRU 92P1169
As far as the battery life is concerned, the Asus Eee PC 1000HE is unrivaled at the moment. Possible alternatives with not quite as long battery life are the Samsung NC10 or the Acer Aspire One 531, these are also somewhat lighter, but not as powerful.Lenovo 57Y6450
Small, lightweight, and a lot of storage space. This is how one could describe the new external 2.5" hard disk from Toshiba. 465GB of usable space and a USB 2.0 port are supposed to convince for less than 120 Euros. You can read how the HDD comes off in the following review.Lenovo L09S8L09
The Toshiba HDDR500E03X is an external 2.5" hard disk in the modern high-gloss design. Five bicolored stripes (in white and grey on out model) optically loosen up the surface somewhat and make the HDD look modern. A disadvantage of the surface, which is coated with piano lacquer, is its susceptibility to fingerprints. This finish is not optimal, especially for a mobile device, since it is covered with finger prints and cords immediately.Lenovo 51J0399
But susceptible to finger printsToshiba integrated a blue LED in the lower left corner of the case for indicating the operating status, it glows while switched on and flashes during read/write-access in its rhythm. Two large rubber stripes adorn the bottom side and make it possible to keep it without gliding on practically every surface.Lenovo 45K2177
The plastic case's stability kann be described as satisfactory. The case creaks a little when pressure is applied to the sides, but it does leave the impression of being stable and should not make any problems during mobile usage.Lenovo L08S3B21
Thanks to the used plastic case, the external USB hard disk remains pleasantly lightweight and portable (weighs 151g).
The case itself can not be opened without damaging it, according to Toshiba (and our own attempts). Therefore, we have to stick with Toshiba as far as the specifications of the used components are concerned.Lenovo L08S6C21
Toshiba's small box offers only a USB 2.0 port. Other ports, such as FireWire or eSata, are nowhere to be found, neither is a connection for power supply. The HDDR500E03X includes a Toshiba MK5055GSX 2.5" hard disk, which offers 500GB of storage space. It is formatted with a factory setting of FAT32 and has 465.8GB of usable storage space. Lenovo ASM 42T4683 Thanks to FAT32, the disk can be used immediately with all current operating systems. The maximum size for single files is 4GB (actually a byte less than 4GB), modern file systems can use the space somewhat more efficiently, and they can read or write files.Toshiba ships the storage box in a handsome plastic packaging, a USB 2.0 cable and a short installation manual in several languages are included.
Specifications of the used Toshiba HDDThe used Toshiba HDDR500E03X is a 2.5" notebook hard disk with 5400rpm and 8MB Cache. The transfer rate reached a constant 33.3 MB/s when tested, thus the USB 2.0 Bus is definitely putting a limit to it. Theoretically about 480 MBit/s (60 MB/s) are possible over USB 2.0, Lenovo FRU 42T4682 but similarly high values seldomly remain in practice. The Toshiba hard disk respectively the controller from Initio make the most of the USB 2.0 interface, which is also visible through the measured burst rate of 27.8 MB/s.The access time of 18.7ms and 7.9% CPU load are also alright for an external hard disk over USB 2.0.
Like most external 2.5" hard disks, the Toshiba HDDR500E03X is also supplied with power via the USB port, a dedicated port for a power supply unit is not provided. However, the hard disk drained up to 740mA (maximum) from the USB port, and USB 2.0 is only specified for up to 500mA. This means that not all notebooks might be able to supply the necessary 740mA, Lenovo ASM 42T4691there might be problems during usage. The available y-cables cannot help either, according to the specifications, since the hard disk cannot register at the second port. The power consumption (important for the reduction of battery life) was at a median of 1.3 watt (while idle) and 2.3 watt (when used).
The Toshiba HDD's surface remained chilly during the test.Due to the vent-free way of construction of the plastic case, only the running noises of the used Toshiba hard disk occur during operation. This is expressed through the quiet whirr of the hard disk during operation, and a barely perceivable rattling during read or write access. Lenovo FRU 42T4688These noises are accompanied by minimally perceptible vibrations. The HDD's surface temperatures remain absolutely uncritical even after longer usage and do not exceed the skin temperature of 32 °C, meaning that it always felt chilly during the test.
For currently 90-125 Euros (source: Geizhals.at), the buyer gets a nifty external hard disk with sufficient storage space. The compability to Windows XP, Vista, 7, MacOS X, and Linux is assured thanks to the FAT32 format. The performance is, as expected, limited by the USB port. Unfortunately, a dedicated power connection is missing, Lenovo FRU 42T4690 which could absorb the current peaks above the USB specifications. Temperatures and running noise do not give any cause for complaints, so the small box can absolutely be recommended.
Acer already landed a direct hit with the first Aspire One A110, which became the best-selling netbook of 2008. As these tiny devices have provided a proper boost to the balances of many manufacturers in such a short time it is no surprise that Acer also wants to see other models meet the same success of the A110 with future models. Following the Aspire One D150, the Taiwanese manufacturer brings another compact 10-incher onto the market with the Aspire One 531.Lenovo 42T4235
Acer has already dedicated a section of its website to the strong selling mini-laptops, which despite some current arguments are shamelessly called netbooks. Overall 6 netbook variants are currently sold by Acer. The Aspire One A110 L/X (Linux or Windows) is still available, whilst its successor comes along in 10-inch form, Lenovo 42T4731the already reviewed D150. However the Aspire One 531 at hand, as well as its bigger brother, the Aspire One 751 with a 11.6-inch display and HD resolution (1366x768), are new to Acer's portfolio.
There is also a revised version of the D150: Acer Aspire One D250.
As for Acer's Aspire One D150, the first 10-inch netbook from the Taiwanese manufacturer wasn't likely to be to every netbook fan's taste when it comes to the case, but Acer was quick to rectify this with the new Aspire One 531, which is a much more stylish and elegant mini-laptop. This can also be considered as a reaction to the latest iterations of competitors' models, for example the Asus Eee PC 1002HA, but also the Dell Mini 10 and many others. Lenovo 42T4733
How does the Aspire One 531 differentiate itself from the D150 with the same form factor and CPU/GPU? Well, apart from a clearly flatter case, not much. This brings with it a further advantage - weight. The Aspire One D150 weighed in at 1350 grams (with a larger 59 Wh battery), whilst the Aspire One 531 weighs 1220 grams, even equipped with the larger 6-cell battery, roughly 10% under the total weight of the D150.Lenovo 42T4737
Changes to the case almost always go hand in hand with design changes, which is the case with the Aspire One 531. Compared to the One D150 the case of the 531 basically fits in better, and shows certain similarities with the business design in the Travelmates.Lenovo 42T4753
In detail, the device does without colourful case materials and to our particular taste so too is there no high gloss finish of the display lid. This is spared due to the fact that it would easily show dirt but also accumulate small scratches and marks over time.
We can't completely renounce the glittery look of the device for the consumer. The shiny frame of the display surrounds the equally reflective display, and also on the base unit the sides have a high gloss finish, which, in our opinion, is aesthetically very well received and whose disadvantages are also kept within limits.Lenovo 42T4757

The 15.6 inch screen comes from Samsung and is called 156AT05-T02. Dell 0XD184It has the rather low resolution of 1366x768 pixels and is also reflective. Thus, the specifications won't bring any surprises. The brightness on the lower edge is still impressive with 220 cd/m2. But it decreases to 185 cd/m2 upwards and to the sides. Consequently, the brightness is distributed acceptably with 84%. The average brightness of 206 cd/m2 is the least that can be expected of a screen.Dell PU556
The screen still allows a brightness of 1.16 cd/m2 to pass through when it's black. This results in a moderate contrast of 182:1. That and the screen's poor brightness result in matt and faded colors that can't be improved by the smooth screen surface, either. This isn't noticed particularly adversely when typing, but it can really ruin the fun of watching movies or slide shows.Dell WR053
The consumer screen from Samsung doesn't come close to covering professional color spectrums. It fails in sRGB as well as the even more demanding AdobeRGB. But that is only of interest for graphic designers and photographers and shouldn't be that important for most users.Dell 312-0567
Toshiba Satellite L750 vs. AdobeRGBThe screen partly can't display all content satisfactory in very bright rooms or outdoors in daylight. Working with the notebook gets very difficult because of the moderate brightness and the reflective surface. The notebook can hardly be used in bright sunlight.Dell 0WR053
Viewing angles: Toshiba Satellite L750-16W The Samsung screen also quickly proves to be a low-cost consumer display looking at the viewing angles. While the colors can still be seen horizontally, they fade extremely when looking down on the screen. When looking up, it dims intensely and the colors invert tremendously. Dell PU563
The Toshiba Satellite L750/755 is available in many various configurations. Processor options range from the entry level Intel Core i3 2330M, the midrange processors Core i5 2410M and 2430M, up to the high performance Intel Core i7 2670QM. Intel's integrated HD Graphics 3000 or Nvidia's entry level graphics cards, GeForce GT 520M or the GeForce GT 525M can be selected as the graphics solution. Moreover, Toshiba advertises a Blu-Ray drive on its homepage that isn't available in any model of the range until now.Dell 312-0543
An Intel Core i5 2430M and an Nvidia GeForce GT 525M is installed in our Satellite L750-16W. Regrettably, Toshiba doesn't implement Nvidia's Optimus Technology, which activates the Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated in the processor during undemanding graphic tasks and thus saves energy. Therefore, the HD Graphics is permanently disabled while the GeForce GT 525M has to calculate even the most basic tasks and unfortunately increases the power consumption a bit. More about that in Battery Life.Dell 312-0584
The memory solutions are designed generously. The hard disk has an unformatted memory capacity of 750 GB and rotates with a faster 7200 revolutions per minute. The main memory is a fast 8 GB DDR3 RAM which clocks with fast 1333 MHz in Dual Channel Mode. Dell 451-10516
The selected processor, Intel Core i5 2430M, is located in the upper midrange. It has a default clock of 2.4 GHz and can reduce the clock to 800 MHz in idle. It's most important feature is Turbo Boost 2.0. It enables the processor to overclock up to 3 GHz when high performance is required and gives it a significant performance advantage.Dell FT080
Cinebench R11.5 assesses the CPU's performance by rendering a 3D scene. There aren't any surprises here. The Satellite achieves the same score as other, similar notebooks with an Intel Core i5 2430M, for example the Samsung Series 7 700Z5A, which however has a much stronger graphics card. The full capacity isn't available on battery power. The Satellite only manages 2.42 points rather than 2.66 points without an external power source in Cinebench R11.5.Dell FT092
PCMark from Futuremark calculates an index for each demand made on the computer and then combines them to a total score. It provides information on the performance of the entire system. The notebook unexpectedly scores a lot worse than expected here. Despite the strong single components, the Satellite L750 is clearly inferior to the Dell Inspiron 14z that has the same processor, but a weaker hard disk and no dedicated graphics card.Dell KX117
Dell's Inspiron doesn't apply the maximum clock of 2.8 GHz, but it runs stably with 2.6-2.7 GHz. The Satellite is defeated here. Although the feared throttling doesn't occur at first, the clock partly drops below the default clock of 2.4 GHz. This poor processor performance also has an impact on the rating of the overall system.Dell NR433
5.7Windows 7 Experience IndexProcessorCalculations per second6.9Memory (RAM)Memory operations per second7.4GraphicsDesktop performance for Windows Aero5.7Gaming graphics3D business and gaming graphics6.5Primary hard diskDisk data transfer rate5.9Dell WW116
Toshiba relies on an own creation for the hard disk. The installed mass memory is called MK7575GSX and can store a data capacity of 750 GB. The magnetic disk rotates with 7200 revolutions per minute, which consequently results in a faster HDD performance. The average transfer rate of 80 MB/s is impressive, although current SSDs have a considerably higher performance and a much lower access rate. Dell 312-0427
The built-in Nvidia GeForce GT 525M is located in the upper entry-level field. It manages approximately twice as many points as the integrated solution, Intel HD Graphics 3000, and is clearly below the performance of the popular GeForce GT 540M in 3DMark Vantage. More comparisons can be made in our graphics card benchmark chart.Dell 312-0428
The Toshiba L750 is always at the lower end of comparably equipped notebooks in the 3D benchmark tests that we executed. The device apparently can't exploit the maximum of the installed hardware here, either.
The graphics card is only suitable for playing current computer games with low requirements.Dell 312-0461 In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the resolution and other features have to be set to the lowest level so that the game runs just smoothly. The first person shooter isn't much fun to play in medium settings. Although the average refresh rate is 27 frames per second, the rate dropped to a very jerky 7 fps in an underwater scene. Then again, DIRT 3 could still be played well even in medium settings. Fans of the latest games should nevertheless turn to at least a GT 540M graphics solution.Dell 451-10339
The Toshiba Satellite L750 isn't really annoying in idle, but it's audible with a permanent hum. The hard disk remains pleasantly quiet despite its fast speeds and doesn't drown out the fan's noises. The optical drive can come to the fore when running, but it's not yet unduly annoying. The fan gets clearly audible during load, but the noise development is still within an acceptable range.Dell PD942
The notebook stays very cool in idle. The notebook doesn't heat up noticeably anywhere with a maximum of 28°C. Thus, it's possible to work comfortably with the notebook on the lap. The Satellite selectively heats up significantly during load and reaches a very warm 42°C on the bottom. The notebook's temperature doesn't increase at all in other places and remains below 30°C. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be used on the lap together with demanding tasks.Dell PD945
The processor and graphics card are loaded to full capacity for at least an hour in the stress test. This allows us to see how the notebook deals with very high load and if the Intel Core i5 manages to overclock to 3 GHz.Dell PD946
Regrettably, the Toshiba Satellite is disappointing in this situation. After starting FurMark and Prime95, the processor's clock rate nosedives from 2.8 GHz to very slow 800 MHz within a few seconds. The Satellite only manages very poor 0.75 points rather than 2.66 points in Cinebench R11.5. This phenomenon is called throttling and is a software-related limitation of the CPU rate during high power consumption. Dell RD850
It is to prevent the notebook from getting too hot, or over-exploiting the power capacity. The first can be excluded because neither the CPU nor the GPU exceed a temperature of 70°C. This is very low for a loaded chip. Thus, the ill has to be looked for in the insufficient power supply (75W power adapter). Dell RD857
After throttling sets in, the laptop has to be rebooted so that the full power is available again. When only the CPU is loaded, for example by Prime95, the notebook can process stably with 2.8 GHz. The same applies when only the GPU is loaded. This problem only turns up when both units run on full capacity and should therefore not often be an issue during practical use.Dell RD859
Consumer notebook speakers are often sported massively and not every sticker keeps its promise. The Japanese manufacturer, Onkyo, is responsible for these speakers.
Unfortunately, as so often the case in laptops, there is absolutely no bass. In return, the trebles and mids sound all the better. The good sound is surprising. The Satellite doesn't distort the usually critical high pitches even in high volume.Dell TD344
The power consumption isn't the notebook's biggest strength. Since the Optimus Technology hasn't been enabled by the manufacturer, the Nvidia graphics card also works in idle. Dell TD347As a result the idle rate of 12 watts is rather high despite an energy efficient processor. Notebooks with Optimus manage a power consumption of less than 8 watts in idle. The notebook even consumes power like "a big one" during load. The Satellite L750 could be mistaken for a basic gaming notebook in view of 78 watts. This energy hunger is inappropriate in relation to the available performance.Dell TD349
A 48 Wh lithium ion battery is used in the Satellite L750. The laptop manages a runtime of good four and a half hours with that. This battery life can only be achieved with disabled network adapters, the lowest screen brightness level and a basic text, such as displaying a text document.Dell UD260
Our WLAN surf test, where we simulate surfing on websites in medium brightness, is a lot more realistic. The notebook lasts for 220 minutes, which should be enough for most users.Dell UD264
The Satellite only lasts for 127 minutes when playing a DVD in maximum display brightness. This is enough for a 90 minute children's movie, but it gets quite tight when watching a longer movie, such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, with a runtime of only 125 minutes.Dell UD265

ReviewSpecifications.Consider it the Ultrabook's bigger brother.HP 463305-751 The Lenovo IdeaPad U400 has the same design as its slim U300s, but expands it slightly to fit in a larger 14-inch screen and a slot-loading DVD drive. At the same time, Lenovo shrunk the price to $899 and still crammed a Core i5 processor, discrete AMD graphics, 750GB hard drive, and 8GB of RAM in a sleek all-aluminum chassis. However, this thin-and-light notebook is not without its faults. Read on to find out what we liked and what we didn't.HP 468816-001

Click to EnlargeEssentially a larger version of the U300s Ultrabook, HP HSTNN-OB71the Lenovo IdeaPad U400 has the same subdued but sophisticated design. The top and bottom edges protrude out slightly, like the cover of a book. The notebook is made from a single piece of aluminum with a sandblasted finish. The result is an exterior that not only looks and feels great, but resists fingerprints, too. The bottom, like the top, is completely sealed, creating a unified look. Four rubber pads keep it from sliding around on the desk.HP HSTNN-XB70
While there's no ridged patterns as on the ASUS U46SV, or speaker grilles as on the Dell XPS 14z, the U400 is elegantly understated. However, we wish it were also offered in Clementine Orange, like the U300s, or in other colors.HP HSTNN-XB71
Measuring 13.4 x 9.1 x 0.9 inches, the U400 isn't as svelte as the 0.6-inch thick U300s, but it still slid comfortably into our messenger bag. At 4.4 pounds, it weighs the same as the XPS 14z, and is 0.6 pounds lighter than the ASUS U46SV.HP KG297AA
Click to EnlargeThe U400's keyboard was identical to the layout on the U300: While the smile-shaped, AccuType chiclet-style keyboard was well spaced, the travel wasn't as great as on the ThinkPad X1. As a result, we found ourselves pressing harder than we liked. Also, the right Shift key is undersized, which seems odd considering the half inch of space on either side of the keyboard. Considering the price, we would also have liked a backlit keyboard.Compaq 301956-001
Lenovo took a step back with the touchpad on the U400. The glass Cypress trackpad offered poor palm rejection. While it measures a spacious 4 x 2 inches, too often while we were writing this review our hand would brush up against the trackpad and inadvertently move the cursor all around the screen. It was infuriating, and the only remedy was to turn off tap-to-click.Compaq 302119-001
Multitouch gestures worked fairly well, though. Pinch-to-zoom and rotate was fast and responsive, as was three-finger flick. The U400's touchpad does let you do some nifty things. A four-finger swipe right launches a full-screen notepad; four fingers to the left shows a gallery of images and lets you change the wallpaper; and four fingers up lets you switch quickly between applications.Compaq 303175-B25
Click to EnlargeThe 14-inch, 1366 x 768 glossy display on the U400 is just average. Colors were plenty vivid when watching a 1080p trailer of Mission: Impossible streamed from YouTube, but we noticed a good deal of splotchiness in darker areas. We also found viewing angles to be somewhat limited; images started washing out when we sat on either side of the display.Compaq 348333-001
Using an AEMC lightmeter, we measured an average brightness of 165 lux on the U400, which is brighter than the Gateway ID47 (153 lux) and the Lenovo IdeaPad V470 (144 lux), but less than the Inspiron 14z (194 lux) and the ASUS U46S (233 lux).Compaq DC907A
Emanating from beneath the keyboard, audio was merely passable. Even when we cranked Eminem's "Lose Yourself," from Pandora, it was underwhelming. Higher tones were accurate and undistorted, but we missed the driving bass line. The SRS control panel helped marginally; we suggest leaving it on the Movie preset to get the most bass out of the system.HP 346970-001
Similar to the U300s, the U400 keeps its internals cool by drawing air in through its "breathable" keyboard and out through the vent on the left side and rear hinge. This managed to keep the laptop relatively cool. After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the touchpad was a chilly 78 degrees, the G and H keys measured 89, and the middle of the underside was 90. All are well below what we consider uncomfortable: 95 degrees.HP 350836-001
Lenovo even manages to make the ports on the U400 look cool. The right side has--from front to back--a headphone jack, two USB ports, and a slot-loading DVD drive. The left has a USB 3.0 and an Ethernet jack.Inexplicably, though, there's no SD card slot. It's an egregious omission. In fact, we'd prefer an SD card slot to an optical drive, and we bet a lot of other buyers would too.HP 371913-001
The U400's 1.3-megapixel webcam can record video up to 1280 x 720. Using the CyberLink YouCam app, it did a good job of picking up colors, such as the green in our eyes, but we noticed a lot of noise, even in a well-lit room. The YouCam app lets you add fun effects such as avatars, but only at resolutions of 640 x 480 and below. We did like the option to record our desktop, something that could be useful for tutorials.HP 371914-001
The U400's 2.4-GHz Intel Core i5-2430M processor, 8GB of RAM, and 750GB hard drive provided fairly strong performance. In PCMark07, the U400 scored 2,307, which bests the thin-and-light category average by 250 points, as well as the ASUS U46SV, which has the same processor and RAM. However, the U400 was on an equal footing as the Dell XPS 14z (2,329) and the Gateway ID47 (2,342).HP 378858-001
Click to EnlargeWhile it has a standard speed of 5,400 rpm, the 750GB drive in the U400 was fairly speedy. Using the Lenovo EE Boot optimizer, the notebook's booted into Windows 7 Home Premium in 48 seconds, which is much faster than the average thin-and-light machine (65 seconds), but twice as long as Ultrabooks. However, the U400 did wake from sleep in a snappy 2 seconds.HP 378859-001
The hard drive duplicated a 5GB folder of multimedia in 2 minutes and 48 seconds, a rate of 30.3 MBps. That's 3 MBps faster than average, and even with the ASUS U46S.On the OpenOffice Spreadsheet test, the U400 took 5 minutes and 34 seconds to match 20,000 names to their corresponding addresses, which is practically identical to the U46SV (5:33) and only slightly slower than the Inspiron 14z (5:28) and the Gateway ID47 (5:27). The category average is 6:14.HP 383965-001
Click to EnlargeCrammed into the U400's frame is a discrete AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card as well as an integrated Intel GMA 3000 GPU. Like Nvidia's Optimus technology, the notebook will switch from one GPU to the other depending on the task. Unlike Nvidia's solution, you have to configure this manually, selecting the apps that should use the discrete GPU using AMD's Catalyst Control Center utility. It's a time-consuming extra step.HP 383968-001
The discrete GPU didn't offer tremendous performance. On 3DMark06, the U400 scored 4,489, about 100 points below the category average, and half that of the ASUS U46SV (8,939), which has Nvidia GeForce GT540M graphics. Even the XPS 14z's Nvidia GeForce GT 520M GPU fared better (5,461).HP DP390A
On World of Warcraft, the U400 averaged 44 frames per second on autodetect, which is playable but not stellar. By comparison, the U46SV averaged 61 fps, and the XPS 14z notched 60 fps. Increasing the graphics to max dropped the U400's average to an unplayable 21 fps, 10 below the average.Forget about more-demanding titles: On Far Cry 2, the U400 averaged just 21 fps with the resolution at 1024 x 768 and effects on default.HP DP399A
Notebooks with sealed batteries are becoming more and more popular on thin-and-light laptops. It creates a unibody look but prevents users from replacing the battery. The U400 lasted 5 hours and 45 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi on 40-percent brightness. That runtime is about 15 minutes longer than average, and it beat out the Dell XPS 14z (5:23), but was far below the ASUS U46SV (6:52) as well as the Gateway ID47 (7:48).HP HSTNN-DB02
Click to EnlargeInstalled programs on the U400 include Microsoft Office Starter 2010, Cyberlink Power2Go and PowerDVD 10, and we also like that Chrome is preinstalled, even if it's given the generic name Internet Browser here.HP HSTNN-DB03
Lenovo utilities include OneKey Recovery and Energy Management (little more than a nice skin for the Windows power manager). A temporary trial of Absolute Data Protect is also included, which lets you remotely wipe the laptop should it get stolen. As with the U300s, we liked that we weren't bothered by annoying pop-ups for third-party antivirus software, just Microsoft Security Essentials.HP HSTNN-DB04
Our $899 version of the U400 (2.4-GHz Intel Core i5-2430M processor, HP HSTNN-DB14 8GB of RAM, and 750GB hard drive) was the mid-range option. For $1,299, consumers get a 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7-2620M processor and 8GB of RAM. The starting model, whose price has not yet been listed, has a 2.2-GHz Intel Core i3-2330M processor. Another version, with a 64GB SSD and a mechanical hard drive, will only be available overseas. The U400 comes with a one-year warranty and 24/7 customer support. Check out our Tech Support Showdown and Best & Worst Brand reports to see how well Lenovo fared.HP HSTNN-IB04
For better and worse--mostly worse--the Lenovo IdeaPad U400 is simply a larger version of its U300s Ultrabook. HP HSTNN-UB02While we like its styling and larger hard drive, we still had trouble with its touchpad, and can't get over the fact that there's no SD card slot. For the same $899, we'd much rather have the ASUS U46SV, which offers both greater endurance and better graphics performance, or the Toshiba Portege Z835, which weighs almost half as much, has a backlit keyboard, and gets nearly 7 hours of battery life. The IdeaPad U400 is nice to look at, but makes too many compromises elsewhere.HP HSTNN-YB02

Akku Acer Aspire 3680 Akku

The computating power of the Aspire 3820TG is all the more formidable when compared to Ultra Low Voltage processors (for example, the Core 2 Duo SU7300), when in 2009 they were still being built into almost all consumer subnotebooks (like the Asus UL30VT, Dell Inspiron 13z, Samsung X120). 3,000 to 4,000 vs. 8,060 points for the i5-460M (Cinebench R10 Multi).Fujitsu Stylistic ST5021 Battery
In any case, the Core i5-460M is more powerful than the Core i5-520UM (low voltage; for consumer notebooks like Asus PL30JT, Lenovo IdeaPad U160, Packard Bell EasyNote Butterfly S, Alienware M11x R2): 3,946 to 6,419 vs. 8,060 points (Cinebench R10 Multi).IBM ThinkPad R60 Battery

PCMark Vantage in DetailSo, how good is the i5-460M's performance according to PCMark Vantage?IBM ThinkPad T60 Battery The result is an impressive 6,001 points (HD 5650 activated). This score makes the 13.3-inch 3820TG a powerhouse of performance and surpasses, for example, the Sony Vaio VPC-F11Z1/E (i7-720QM, GT 330M, 5,844 points) and the HP EliteBook 8440p-WJ681AW (i5-520M, Intel HD, 5,770 points). The reason for this relatively very good performance is the fast Western Digital HDD. More about that just below. The Aspire 5820TG-5464G75Mnks, having identical CPU and GPU configurations manages to get only 5,745 points.IBM ThinkPad T60p Battery
The 750 GB HDD from Western Digital (WD7500BPVT-22HXZT1) works pretty quickly, although it's just a typical 5400 RPM HDD. It has a sequential read rate of 75 MB/s (HD Tune). The CrystalDiskMark shows a rate as high as 81.6 MB/s (different test routine than HD Tune). The HDD score in PCMark Vantage is at 3,647 (Sub Score).Lenovo Thinkpad R500 Battery
The recorded transfer rates are above average for a 2.5-inch HDD running at 5400 RPM. Normally, only HDDs spinning at 7,200 RPM can reach values like this. The Burst Rate of 90 MB/s is very good, which signifies a fast HDD cache.Lenovo Thinkpad W500 Battery
The Acer 3820TG comes with a dedicated ATI Radeon HD 5650 (1.024 MB GDDR3). The core runs at a clock rate of 550 MHz, the memory at 800 MHz (see Tools GPUZ-Z). Acer does not therefore downsample the GPU; it runs at the same clock rate in just about all notebooks. The HD 5650 can be deactivated because of the hybrid-connection. This can be done manually or by setting it to deactivate when unplugging the power supply.Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Battery
Some would definitely like to have the Nvidias Optimus (which is, of course, IBM 40Y6799 not available for ATI GPUs) since the screen goes blank for a few seconds and the applications previously using the GPU must be closed. On account of incompatibility observed between some games (Mafia 2, Starcraft 2) and Optimus, users are better off with a real "hybrid-switch". For instance, on the Lenovo V560 (Optimus) Starcraft 2 refuses to work with the Geforce 310M. Instead the Intel HD is always used (even when 310M is forced on in the Nvidia settings.)IBM ASM 92P1138
The HD 5650 belongs among the ATI mid-grade GPUs and their gaming capability has been getting around. The 3DMark2006 gives it 6,754 points. This value only increases in combination with an i7-720QM (Deviltech Fire DTX, 7,076 3DMarks06) The Nvidia mid-grade competitor, the GT 330M, with the i7-740QM ranks in slightly behind (Sony Vaio VPC-F12Z1E/BI, 6,574 points).IBM ASM 92P1140
The HD 5650 has already been intensively tested. You can reference its performance in the HD 5650 Data Sheet or in our game database. As a spot check, we took two older games to measure the HD's relative gaming performance.IBM ASM 92P1142
The first-person shooter from early 2010 has already proved itself to be quite cooperative in many tests with the HD 5650. The games runs fairly smoothly with moderate details at 39 to 46 fps, even with an AMD Phenom II X4 N930 configuration. To our pleasure, the 3820TG manages to do even a bit better: 47 fps (1,366 x 768).IBM FRU 42T4504
If you don't turn on high details, it's your own fault. The game actually runs smoothly at 32 fps with high detail settings. The 3820TG yet again sets the best value with an HD 5650. Playing with an Nvidia GT 330M, on the other hand, is no fun. It performs 36% slower on average (high details). Plugging the laptop into a full HD monitor made the game unplayable at 15 fps.IBM FRU 42T4513
The fantasy RPG from the end of 2009 requires a powerful graphics card and is barely playable on most notebooks set to moderate graphics settings. Our TimelineX 13.3-inch notebook ranks in on average at 34 fps. High graphics settings are out of the question (24 fps), although a mix of high and moderate settings can get you what you need.HP Compaq nx5100 Battery
The shooter from 2008 can be played with high detail settings: 47 FPS. Since this measurement relates only to a resolution of 1,024x768, users with full DirectX 10 details can also raise the resolution to the native 1,366x768. The measured frame rate leaves enough room for this. A GT 330M is on average 24% slower than our test model.HP Compaq nx6100 Battery
Due to the control and AI of many small units, the playability of this RTS is highly dependent on the CPU. With moderate graphics settings (1,366 x 768) the game is smooth and playable on all notebooks with HD 5650. Weaker CPUs result in lower fps, however. An AMD Phenom II X3 P820 configuration performs at 36 fps, while our 3820TG gets up to 44.5 fps.HP Compaq nx6105 Battery
With high detail settings, the frame rate becomes to slow to play on any HD 5650 laptop,HP Compaq nx6110 Battery even on ours: 29 fps. AMD configurations, however, do even worse at 24 fps.
LI 96.3Kudos to the ATI HD 5650 for coming in first in just about every game. The i5-460M helps the GPU add on a few more fps, although virtually no difference to the i5-430M is apparent. To some extent AMD configurations perform at a clearly lower level. Gamers are in the right place with an i5-460M. HP Compaq nx6115 Battery
One of the main questions a potential buyer of the TimelineX 3820TG might have is whether the hardware normally built into a 15.6-inch notebook can stay sufficiently cool in the compact case of the TimelineX. The answer is yes. Going online, reading and writing data, it's all done at low noise levels (31 to 35dB(A) at the most). When the notebook is idle (the HD 5650 deactivated), both fans turn off for as much as about 10 minutes (depending on ambient temperature).HP Compaq nx6120 Battery
Even when one of the fans is running, it produces a soft humming of 30.7 dB(A). When the HD 5650 is activated, that raises the noise level on average by one dB(A) and temporarily prevents the turning off of both fans.HP Compaq nx6125 Battery
If the HD 5650 is working hard (3DMark2006), the noise level rises to a still-bearable 35 dB(A). Since the fans very gradually change rotation speed, the differences in activity produce little difference in noise output. When the CPU and GPU were tested under full stress, then the noise level rose to 38.3 dB(A). This level was also reached during the gaming tests.HP Compaq nx6130 Battery
Acer did a perfect job with the fan controller: no high pitched drilling noise under heavy use, no loud droning and no ridiculously high maximum noise level. Most of the time, both of the fans produce subtle background noise, only becoming clearly audible during gameplay, but not distracting. Acer's dual fan concept has proven itself a great success. Each fan can spin more slowly and nevertheless blow enough exhaust out of the case.HP Compaq nx6140 Battery
In terms of heat output, the 3820TG is not as praiseworthy. Even when the notebook's doing nothing (Idle, Intel HD active), the base unit remains noticeably warm (The top part is on average 30ºC). The bottom just reaches 40ºC while idle.HP Compaq nx6300 Battery
During text-editing or surfing the Internet, the temperature rises a bit. The top part of the base unit can reach as high as 40ºC (in the middle). The palm rest always remains at an acceptable level of no higher than 30ºC.HP Compaq nx6310 Battery
Under heavy use, the temperature rises markedly, but the 50ºC mark is never reached. Most of the upper half of the base unit heats up to 40-46ºC. The bottom part near the left exhaust vent reaches 47ºC. The average is 40.6ºC.HP Compaq nx6315 Battery
No longer can the 13.3 inch notebook be used on your lap. It's, of course, not so hot as to burn your fingers. But while playing games or other heavy stress to the hardware, the air intakes should not be covered up.HP Compaq nx6320 Battery
Good news on the hardware front. The 460M CPU heated up during the heaviest use to a maximum of 82ºC. The HD 5650 reached 77ºC. The quiet cooling system managed to keep the heat exhaust under control even when the high temperatures couldn't be kept far from the surfaces of the case.HP Compaq nx6325 Battery
The two tiny stereo speakers are located just above the keyboard next to the Dolby Home Theater logo.HP Compaq nx6330 BatteryThe Dolby sound quality would be more enjoyable to listen to over headphones or external speakers. The high notes are far too strongly emphasized, while the middle and bass notes are neglected. Overall, the sound produced is shallow and hardly differentiated. The volume is appropriate for the case size. There's no distortion heard at maximum volume. We tested the notebook's sound production with two external Yamaha speakers (YST-M20SDP). The notebook's sound level is relatively loud and static-free (Audio Test, No Measurement).HP Compaq 360482-001

Slim, thin, elegant and robust: The Toshiba Satellite R630 lives up quite well to these claims. That a slim design doesn't only have advantages can ultimately be seen in the emissions. Our test device can get quite warm under load. Additionally, the restless fan management and fan's noise characteristics even in office use make a negative impression.battery for Dell xps m1730

Toshiba wants to especially address private users with the Satellite R630. In consideration of the given performance, it is clearly designed for internet and office tasks and not for multimedia, or even computer games. In return, the private user is treated to features that are often not available in devices for the consumer market. In particular an antiglare screen and a robust magnesium case have to be named here. Thus, we find comparable devices especially in the starter business field. battery for Dell inspiron e1505

Competitor notebooks are especially found in the starter business field of various manufacturers. For example, battery for Dell studio 1535the Vostro 3300 from battery for Dell or the Lifebook S760 from Fujitsu. The hinges hold the cover tightly in place with room for only a slight bounce back and forth. However, two hands are required to open up the notebook, which can bend back to a maximum of 170º. The hard-to-bend aluminum cover lends the compact construction a high degree of sturdiness. The surface can even withstand pressure aimed at a small spot on the cover.battery for Dell inspiron 1525
The doesn't jut out and has no feet to prop up the notebook with.battery for Dell latitude e6400 When attached to a power source, the may be removed. The bottom, made of plastic, follows the sturdy construction of the cover. We were able, however, to dent the area covering the left exhaust fan by poking at it with no more than a finger. This disabled the fan (pressure from underneath). Pressure from above has no effect. An access opening at the bottom offers the option of upgrading hardware: hard drive, RAM, WLAN module (mini PCIe Half Size). A Mini PCI slot appears to be free but there's no port to the mainboard soldered on.battery for Dell latitude d620
The TimelineX 3820TG has few ports. Even every-once-in-a-while gamers would have liked a fast connection to an external e-SATA disk drive. Upgrading existing ports is also out of the questions due to the lack of an ExpressCard slot. Despite there being no built-in optical drive, the construction still lacks surface room. That is, there are two exhaust fans on the right and left sides of the case.battery for Dell latitude d630
The positioning of the right and left ports, even the Ethernet, does not seem particularly well thought out. Cables sticking out, especially bulky VGA and HDMI cords prevent the use of a mouse or at least contribute to a messy table. battery for Dell inspiron 1526
Remunerative Surcharge? For a surcharge, e.g., battery for Dell and Schenker offer some of their notebooks with built-in Samsung PM800 Solid State Drive. In this test we check the performance of the 256 GB version and show how it can compete with other current high-end SSDs.battery for Dell inspiron 6400
The Samsung PB22-J/PM800 is a relatively old SSD, which is still frequently found inside current notebooks because of its good price-performance ratio. It features a Samsung Controller, supports NCQ from the start and since the beginning of 2010 also TRIM. Alike the competition Samsung uses Multi-Level-Cell (MLC) NAND chips as memory chips.battery for Dell inspiron 1501
Asus UL50VFWe tested the Samsung SSD under two different platforms. In order to record the maximum performance of the drive we used an up-to-date desktop system with the following specification:Let's start with the commonly used HDTune reading benchmark. It records the reading rates across the whole drive. Performance degrading at the start of the drive is caused by precedent benchmarks and data.battery for Dell vostro 1000
Compared to current high-end SSDs from Intel and OCZ (Sandforce Controller) the sequential transfer rates of the Samsung SSD are lower. battery for Dell vostro 1520 It still achieves 207 MB/s in the desktop system and 170 MB /s in the notebook. So, the difference is not really big. Conventional and hybrid hard drives only accomplish 74 MB/s on average and are clearly outperformed.HDTune comparison in Asus UL50VF laptopIn contrary to HDTune, h2benchw also records the writing rates. In the sequential test the Samsung SSD gets the second place twice.battery for Dell inspiron 1720
ATTO P55 DesktopIn the ATTO benchmark, the SSDs mostly reach the maximum transfer rates specified by the manufacturer. This is also true for the Samsung PM800. A maximum of 229 MB/s is recorded in reading and 188 MB/s in writing. This is even slightly more than the 220/180MB mentioned in the specs.battery for Dell vostro 1500
Nevertheless, the performance curves are clearly below those of up-to-date high-end SSDs with Sandforce controller (e.g. the OCZ Vertex 2). The very fast Intel SSD is also clearly faster in reading, however, in writing it is slower from a block size of 4 KB on, because of its (designed?) limitation. The performance is comparable to Indlinx based SSDs (e.g. Patriot Memory Torqx).battery for Dell latitude d820
ATTO comparison on Asus UL50VF (system drive)In the CrystalDiskMark benchmark we can evaluate 4k accesses.battery for Dell latitude d830 The Samsung SSD performs very well in reading 4k blocks and can even top Intel and Sandforce. However, as soon as the queue depth is raised to 32, it falls clearly behind the high-end SSDs from Intel and OCZ. The 4k write rates are clearly worse too. But, in the sequential results the PM800 can achieve good results and, built-into the Asus notebook, even the best write rates.battery for Dell studio 17
CrystalDiskMark comparison on Asus laptopThe results of the AS SSD are similar to the CrystalDiskMark. In 4K reading and sequential access the Samsung PM800 is on par with high-end SSDs. But, 4K access with 64 threads, which has an important impact on the total score, does not belong to the strengths of the Samsung SSD. As a result the total score is relatively low too.battery for Dell studio 15
AS SSD rating UL50VF NotebookThe PCMark Vantage is a synthetic benchmark, which evaluates the system performance through a number of different tests. We look at the total score and the HDD result in order to rate how the SSD influences the system performance. battery for Dell studio 1535
In the HDD test the PM800 can not totally keep up with the fast Intel SSD and is clearly declassed by the Vertex 2. In comparison to the Seagate XT Hybrid-HDD, the Samsung SSD is still nearly 2.9x faster. In the total score the difference is not that big any longer. Interestingly enough, the PM800 can outperform the Intel X25-M G2 SSD and close on the Vertex 2 here.battery for Dell Studio 1536
We now look at the practical benchmarks. The first one is the copy test of the AS SSD. It consists of three tests with gaming, application files and an ISO image. The Samsung can, in both, the desktop and as system drive of the laptop, achieve convincing 265GB. In total, it has the best transfer rates. Only in the desktop, it marginally falls behind the Vertex 2 in transferring executables.battery for Dell Studio 1537
AS SSD Copy Test on UL50VF as system drive (1/3 full). In the Windows 7 Start the PM800 can shine too. It takes 26 seconds to boot, which is the best result. Therewith, it is more than double as fast than the conventional Seagate HDD in the test device. Even the fast Intel and OCZ SSDs are clearly outperformed.battery for Dell Studio 1555
The like gets evident during the OpenOffice installation. It needs just 38 seconds to install on the Samsung SSD, so, the Samsung SSD is best.At first, it takes clearly longer to open our OpenOffice Writer reference file from the PM800 than from the Intel or the OCZ SSDs. However, when we repeated the test, the PM800 was barely the best.battery for Dell Studio 1557
